Just wondering, as I now have a fairly decent SM force I have a couple of questions as to how I should tweak my chapter to make them a bit more beliveable.

1) what's the best way to make my basecoat black vehicles a bit more realistic? I tried edge highlighting and had to re-do the Crusader as I messed it up badly so need some simple way to improve it?

2) Would an Crusader be a good Raider to use as the chapter masters personal transport?

3) What should I be looking at adding to them - I have the AoBR and DV sets (minus the hideous bikes) plus two Rhino / Razorbacks, a Deimos Infernus, LR Crusader, LR Ares and a TechMarine Rhino. Was considering a few Land Speeders and another Dread.

I have done them in such a way that I can play them as either BA successor or vanilla codex marines. So far they haven't do e very well though - only just getting used to how tough the terminators are compared to IG guys!

1) what colour are you painting?
2)What type of chapter master, e.g assaulty, shooty?
3)more tactical and scout squads. you really need these, and possibly some hammernators

1) Drybrushing, detailing, and mud around the tracks. Tutorials are fairly common on youtube.

2) Usually, but it depends on what you like doing most. Do you like lots of dice? then yes, or do you like making big nasty things go boom? if so, then no the base raider is probably better.

3) Terminators... LOTS OF TERMINATORS. Also dreadnoughts, either iron clad with the hammer, or quad gun dreads.

Dreadnoughts aren't particularly good anymore, due to being easy to glance to death, but an ironclad in a drop pod is still god, just be aware it probably wont last very long

At the moment it's just plain black, I was considering doing my Terminators and heavy armour in the same dark purple as my IG armour, would allow them to stand out from the rest of the chapter and go with my fluff a bit more.

I found the Crusader has been quite a good combat unit, survived both games unlike either of my Razorbacks. Just unsure if it would make a good personal transport for the Chapter Master as my marines are a more shooty and mechanised style of chapter. Was considering going for a Prometheus as well but I think that would be less appropriate.

I think if I do them as a BA successor then I can't use the Ironclad but I am still debating on if they stay BA or go as vanilla codex - they did better played as a normal codex chapter oddly plus you get more things I like in the vanilla codex, I'd miss the Furioso Libby though.

Are shooty terminators better than assaulty terminators? I tend to get mine into rapid fire range of an enemy and then hold them there. Proved a good tactic against Obliterators especially with the Crusader pulled up behind them.

And better to run them as squads of 5 or max the squad out to the Crusader's transport capacity?

Shooty terminators use stormbolters, so they can't rapid fire. They can be useful but tac marines do shooting just as well and much cheaper.

If you do assault terminators run them in squads of 5 with a Chaplin in terminator armor attached to the squad. When they assault they are doom. Or run 10 man squads and just forget the transport, expensive, risky but so so worth it when they turn an eldar avatar into paste in one turn.

Hum, good thing I didnt gue the arms on any of the Termies then, just need to buy the Thunderhammer and storm shield arms and then I can convert them to assault termies.

I have used a Sentinel misslile pod on one of the AoBR termies as a Cyclone launcher as well, so that gives them a bit more firepower from slightly longer range.

Is the quad gun dreadnought the "Rifleman" one?

Unlike Sentinels, I really like Dreadnoughts so any excuse to get more of them is good with me!

Yea, the dreadnought with 2 sets of twin linked auto cannons. Not as durable as they used to be, but they make great can openers. And when the next codex they'll probably be the best anti-aircraft in the game (this is assuming they get skyfire).

Well I think i might get one of them then. Dont really have anything useful against flyers ATM.

The BA flyer is a bit too big and expensive, might get a Storm Talon (I'm odd but I am starting to like them a bit more) but that means I would have to play them as Vanilla marines. Not that it may be a bad thing.

Brought some more stuff for the guys now so fleshed them out a bit more, just not sure now if I get more of some stuff or something else.

Have now got:
Land Raider Ares
Land Raider Crusader
Two Razorbacks
TechRhino
Two assault termie squads
Two shooty termie squds
Three tactical squads
Vindicator
Two Baal Predators
Six Bikes
Dreadnought
Chaplain
Librarian

As I tend to switch things about in the list, not really sure where to go from here.

Any suggestions as to what to get now that would be useful?
