Jealous that Horus is Warmaster

Cornwall UK

Hello all. I'm new to the warmachine game, having just bought a Khador starter set (Sorscha and 2 jacks) on impulse at my flgs.
Can people tell me:
the Khador tactics?
what to get after the starter set?
what armies Khador does well against?
what armies Khador struggles against?

thank you for your time,
LooT

Many and varied forces in progress according to waxing & waning whims.

I may never finish an army in my life.

Best bet is to read the Quick start rules / Rulebook.

Get in some games at your LGS.

Its not so much What army does good against another, more of what caster does good against another.

Every army is competetive, but not every caster. (Sorscha's are both good)

I suggest reading battlecollage and read about the models you have, its a good place to start.

It has rundowns of what everything does, and ways to use them.

(1)Khador tactics depend on (a) caster, and (b) composition. a strakhov blitz list will play differently to an Irusk infantry swarm.
(2)stick to the starter set. play a few dozen games. cut your teeth, learn your basics. then expand slowly. there is no "how to". this isnt space wolves where you have 2 or 3 "builds". this is warmachine. everything can be built into an effective winning strategy. "what to get next"? well, what do you like the look of.
(3&4)Factions dont win games; its more complicated than that. it boils down to (a) casters, (b) composition, and (c) how well you play. certain casters have good and bat matchups, and while they can be great in some situations, they lose out in others. this is all nicely covered by the steamroller 2-list to a tournament policy. but ultimately, factions dont win games. players win games. great players beat good players, good players beat average players, average players beat mediocre players, and so on, luck notwithstanding.

And by all means, read the privateer press forums! They actually have quite a bit of information. Battlecollege is a godo reference, but the PP thread gives you much better info about how casters play.

Everything above.

Also google ForwardKommander.com works amazing well for WM/H.

Great way to work on list building to figure out points and such before buying models.

Play, play, play. Nothing will teach you how the game and its tactics work like a good dose of games.

I have to second that. Just don't get fed up if you lose your first several games. I played for a year before winning my first game. There is so much in this game that every caster in each faction will completely change the game. You could play against the same units from one week to the next but they would act completely different just with the change of the caster.

So, learn the basic rules and feel out what your play style is. As what was said before that both Sorcha's are great and an excellent caster to learn with. There isn't a very steep learning curve with her. So, play the starter set many times till you get the feel to get an idea of your play style before rushing out to expand right into 35 or even 50 points. Alot of people do that and then have a whole shelf of stuff that looked cool but are never played. This is what happened with me and my Kossite Woodsmen (p.s. they suck hardcore and are not played unless I am running the Old Witch.) Hope this helps and welcome to the motherland comrade.

Warmachine is not about your list, its about what you do with your list against certain opponents. And how your list interacts with itself.

Play games, lotsa games. Learn what dirty combos you can pull off.

Also, read and know the rules. They are quite clear and concise, which can throw you for a loop. Then consider the implications of how they interact with your armies rules.

Also, if you want a list of a couple units to buy I agree with widowmakers and invest in Beast09. He is good with almost all casters and a wonderful beat stick. Everyone that plays knows that Jack so he will draw alot of attention but the first time he goes "Beast SMASH!" against a light warjack with a boosted charge attack or into a unit of infantry with his special attack you will know why I said to get him.

I also agree with Beast09 but don't rule out the other heavies. With Epic Irusk the Behemoth is pretty good, and never look down on a Spriggan. Expensive? Yes, but a great utility jack from my experience.

Behemoth is good with both Sorcha's but I feel at it's prime with eSorcha. It destroyed a Kracken and a Mountian King on her feat turn. Got to love a Behemoth on eSorcha's feat + AP + Full Focus + Charging on a Colossal.
