Ok, so I will be ordering my warmachine mini's/books/etc.. On thursday. I, my wife and two daughters will all be playing. I am trying to finalize purchases for myself as I want to make sure I end up close to what everyone else gets.

My wife and 1 daughter will be splitting a hordes 2 player starter, my other daughter will be getting a cryx battlegroup. I decided on cygnar, but the battlegroup (mainly stryker) seems rather bland so I will be buying individual models.

My problem is I want to buy something that won't be to overpowered (or weak) but will be fun to play. To this end I am leaning towards pNemo or eNemo with thunderhead and a defender. If I did my math right that is 15 pts, which is what we will be playing.

Will this be ok against basically battlegroups? Will I get slaughtered? Which nemo is the better of the two for this setup (both look fun)?

That sounds like a solid start. Either Nemo is quite a good, balanced warcaster, albeit a bit delicate. The Thunderhead has good synergy with pNemo, who can give it enough focus to let off some really devastating ranged attacks. But with a lower starting model count than your opponents, eNemo might be a better choice for Polarity Shield to stop the old man from getting charged.

In terms of "fun to play against", I'd suggest avoiding both Haleys, and epic Caine. The Haleys are heavily into denial, and Caine's out-of-nowhere assassinations can be frustrating when you're learning.

"The 75mm gun is firing. The 37mm gun is firing, but is traversed round the wrong way. The Browning is jammed. I am saying "Driver, advance." and the driver, who can't hear me, is reversing. And as I look over the top of the turret and see twelve enemy tanks fifty yards away, someone hands me a cheese sandwich."

I love the thunderhead but I feel it is better suited to higher points levels where it can target infantry and not have to go heavy-to-heavy. He can be a very fun assassination tool, but that won't work as well against hordes. To start out you will probably be better off with ol'rowdy or a stormclad and picking up the big guy at 35 points.

All three Nemos are quite good and either of the two you mentioned will work well to start with.

elemental: Yah I plan to stay away from haley (though like nemo looks cool). My wife watched me play a counts as game to learn rules. I used mohsar, woldwarden, megalith. She said if I play someone with control shenanigans that bad she wouldn't play me.

Dais: my problem with rowdy is he has no ranged options and I like being flexibal. I figured thunderhead and defender gave me a good mix of ranged and melee threat and some fun synergy.

As for nemo 3 I have no idea what he is like, could find next to nothing on him online. (note my net hates battlecollege so I can't look at him on that).

The issue you will find is that the t-head is not all that flexible himself. His fists are rather low power -and while there are some buffs to increase that- it could be better to buff his defense rather than put a band-aid over his lower melee capability. Again- I love the thunderhead but I have a hard time recommending him for small games or new players due to the finesse it can take to run him. You may want to check out the avenger for another good hybrid jack with a little more melee punch. you could even fit in a solo with him.

How would a stormclad be? He seems similar to rowdy but has a shooting attack, though shortish range. The book I borrowed has no info on an avenger. What is it like?

I would like to mention that character jacks tend to be a large portion of a small list and as such, you are often better off taking non-character jacks and units or solos. Don't get me wrong, they're powerful and worth the points, but in such small games like 15points, you'll be easily overwhelmed by most lists. A jack is still only a jack after all is said and done and it's probably going to die to someone who brought more.

If you are buying them individually you can buy the two plastic heavy kits and build any of the three jacks. I magnetized my defender/cyclone/ironclad so I can play all 3 (just not at once, obviously) If you did this with both jacks you would have a ton of options. I highly recommend it.

BTW, Avenger is in the WRATH book. Here is a link to a synopsis.

It seems like a solid jack if you have a way to make it more accurate which I do not think either nemo does other than boosting.

Also do not discount the light jacks. Lancer could be useful with pNemo, allowing him to stay further back. Hunter and Minuteman are both solid. Sentinal and charger both have their place as well.

Sounds cool that you are getting the whole family involved. have fun!

Trying to keep model count low to save a little is why I am going for two heavies. I may try to pick up two light and one heavy as I do like charger and lancer.

As for being outnumbered I don't mind, will put me in proper mindset. My 40k army is pure nurgle chaos marines so I'm used to having less models on the board then my family. Give me a solid force over an expendable force any day.
