I'm thinking of building up my Slaanesh army to use at a couple of next year's local convention tournaments. Both of these (if I remember) generally run either painting scores, or have a best painted award given at them. I'm curious to know how tournaments in general that do this have been dealing with models that are not purchased as part of the army but could be needed during play. In my case, I'm thinking of Daemon Princes and Chaos Spawns needed for Boon rolls, since they're big models that can still serve as centerpiece models (as opposed to, say, spawned Gaunts or Necron Warriors).

Have there been enough big tournaments since the release of the new Chaos codex for any sort of precedent/standard to be established for this, or have discussions been taking place among organizers? Are these extra models something that can serve as nice extras, or are they largely going to be ignored?

Part of the army is part of the army. I have cinematic craters for explodes results and Objective markers which are part of my army. I also sometimes have Zogwort and his 'squig' if and when he turns opponent ICs into squigs.

All of it is part of the army! Just put it on the display board and it should be judged as part of the army.
