INQUISITOR VERNULA CASTIMONIA, THE MISTRESS OF MOENIA

Even before her elevation to rank of Inquisitor in service to the Ordo Malleus, Vernula Castimonia was a remarkable Imperial servant. She served with the 201st Ecclesiarchal militia, and participated in many fire sweeps and purges of her Hive city home. At the age of 16, her parents, two senior members of the Militia and important members of the local imperial government, were martyred in a midnight raid by vengeful Heretics. Young Vernula was inducted into the Schola Progenium and was taught the rigours of Ordo life. After her training was complete her faith burned brighter than most, her belief in the right of humanity to dominate the stars in the Emperors name firmly implanted with in her heart. She selected one of the hardest paths, Recruitment into the Adepta Soroitas; the Militant arm of the Ecclesiarchy.

As a Battle Sister of the Order of the Sanguine Flame, Vernula fought through many blood soaked crusades. At Clermont-Ferrand while fighting the foul Greenskins she stood shoulder to shoulder with High Marshall Helbrecht of the Black Templars, on crusade against the heretics of Montis she was first into the fray behind the Canoness and her bodyguard of Celestians at the final assault on the inner palaces of the Palace of Thorns. Time and time again her faith and fury earned her the attention of the Orders senior members, and was to be promoted to the Personal Celestians of Canoness Angela Glocké, Leader of the Order, and fought many wars of faith at her side.

Eventually she was noticed by a higher authority; Lord Inquisitor Damien Krieg. She was inducted into his Warband as an Interrogator, an Apprentice Inquisitor and served her master closely for many years. Her list of initial successes’ were small but still note worthy, the rooting out of the apocalypse cult of Sundleheim XII, the supervision of the Gralosian Witch Trials and the purging of the corrupt Confessor André IV to name a few.

But Castimonia grew restless. After years of Frontline combat and of constant action she found her self growing restless with the changed duties of hunting shadows and lies. All this changed with the events on Argolis, a small factory world on the edge of the Vidar subsector.

The mission was the planned capture and execution of Treyvond Lesaerniac, a Radical Inquisitor who got too close to his “Experiments” and been judged too corrupt to continue service in the Emperors name. The raid was to be carried out at Midnight under the cover of darkness. Inquisitor Krieg, Vernula, the other twenty seven members of the Inquisitors retinue and two units of PDF spec ops troopers infiltrated into the snow capped mountaintop laboratory the radical was using as his personal residence planetside. Leaving one of the Squads of PDF to guard the way in, Krieg and his Retinue set off, infiltrating in through the roof vents.

No information has ever been released on the events that transpired in the temple, of members of Lord Inquisitor Damien Krieg’s retinue and the Argolis PDF detachment, a good fifty men and women strong, three survived.

The only other fact of was that with his dying breath Damien Krieg had Bequeathed his Inquisitorial Seal and title of Inquisitor to Vernula, and when questioned on the exact circumstances of her elevation, no explanation is ever given.

After the events of Argolis, Vernula and her two companions travelled to the closest Inquisitorial outpost by virtue of the late Inquisitors personal vessel, the decommissioned Cobra class destroyer turned headquarters “Burning Judgement”. Upon arrival they were greeted by none other than Lord Inquisitor Torquemada Cortez, the Guardian of Formosa, and was subject to trials of purity, and an inquest into Inquisitor Krieg’s demise, after a week of rigorous testing, she was fully vested as an Inquisitor in the Ordo Malleus. She inherited all of her former mentor’s resources and the protection of the Moenian subsector, a small cluster of worlds on the borders of the Vidar and Formosa subsectors. As was her position, as was her right.

When she arrived on Moenia, a Shrine world and Capital world of the Moenian subsector, the new Inquisitor immediately set to work in creating a network of informants, spies and trusted advisors for her policing of the Subsector. She had once been restless in her pursuit of Heresy and other Inquisitorial Duties, but whatever had transpired on Argolis had changed her. She pursued her new duties with fire and the passion of a hunter, of a woman changed.

Her first several years were of bloodthirsty cleansing, as she travelled all over the system, rooting out Apostates and Mutants, Deviants and Psykers without hesitation, earning her the Nickname “Mistress of Moenia” with the Iron will and steely discipline she enforced. She became a common sight, stalking through the towering basilicas and grand vestibules of faith in the capital worlds sprawling urban bulk, and at other times appearing out of the Savannah wildernesses of Isandlwana like a ghost. Everywhere she went her pet Isandlwanaian Deathhound stalking at its mistress heels, a reminder that this is her sector now.

I dare say this is some of the best Inqusitorial fluff I have read, I really like your style of telling a story. Do give us more in the future will you?

I think the idea of a SoB becoming an Inquisitor is a bit srange, but I guess it works
