I ran four characters through the streets of Paragon city off and on over the years, Silver Tongue, The Gutless Wonder, Freud, and Original Bob.
I ended up doing a couple of 5 hour sessions between Thusday and Friday running Bob, and finishing the last hour in Atlas Park at the city hall for the final time. A lot of people there were getting fairly emotional over the plug getting pulled and some were creating new characters to the very end and beating up the bad guys.
In the times I've played in the game, I've met people that had some serious and otherwise debilitating health issues that were able to use this as their escape. People that couldn't walk were able through the game to smash through hordes of NFL sized villains and come out smiling.
It was a bit sad for me as I ran that thought through my mind, and I will truly miss the game since I was had a character in it from the time it first came out.
Being a comic book geek in the old days, it was a natural draw for me, so I guess it is time for me to give Champions on line a go at some point in the future.

In my experience NCSoft hold onto games too long. I never played CoH, but like you I met some pretty cool people on lineage.

I have conceded that the Eldar page I started in P&M is their legitimate home. Free Candy! Updated 10/19.

I was running with three other people last night on one last mission. Towards the last part a couple of them typed in that they didn't want the game to end. There's a video on youtube that was kind of a cool farewell to the game:

I started playing CoH a month after it came out and only quit for three months in college when their network setttings wouldn't let me log in to the game. I actually changed colleges after that (for unrelated reasons, obviously) and between then and the end I was a paying subscriber. I only had 10 50s in the end though. A couple of full blown Incarnates. Damn, I'm gonna miss that game. Couldn't even be on my home server at the end because it kept crashing, so I ended the night on another server on a character I had made a couple years ago in an attempt to recreate the very first character I ever made.

I'm not much of a comic book geek, but I loved the hell outta this game. I tried Champions a while back and found it.... lacking.
