Hi, the hype over the hobbit films has got my thirst for some Middle eath warfare going again after many years. I realise we are probably in for some changes with the new releases, but as i understand WotR is still current (Right?)

Anyway... I have come up with 2 lists i'm very fond of (I like a good theme slightly more than having the "best" army) and was seeking some advice. have i got it right? are these good starting points? any help greatly appreciated!

Uruk Hai scouting party:

Common Formations
Uruk Scout warband – 2x companies, Shields, – 70
Uruk Scout warband – 3x companies, Bow – 105
Legendary formation
Ugluk’s Raiders – 2x companies – 145
Epic Heroes
Lurtz – 175
Total: 495

VS

Osgiliath Deffence Force

Common Formations
Warriors of Minas Tirith – 2x Companies, Banner, Captain – 135
Warriors of Minas Tirith – 2x Companies, Banner, – 85
Minas Tirith Archers – 1x company – 30
Minas Tirith Archers – 1x company – 30
Minas Tirith Knights – 3x Companies, Shields, Banner – 125
Epic Heroes
Faramir - 90
Total: 495

I'm not to sure which i want to start first, but as christmas is coming i figured it a good time to get started!

Thanks!

From the looks of things you're trying to make armies that use as few boxes as you can; good plan! And if you were to go about with theme, how about some Gondor Rangers? It wasn't all Minas Tirith Warriors defending Osgiliath.
