Hey guys! I work at my FLGS, and, being the only wargaming guy there, GW sent us a promotional new LOTR set, with a ton of goblins and all of that. I was curious, I have never ever ever painted any of these models before. What kind of paints should I be going for? I'm going to try and get them as close to the artwork on the box, so if ya'll could help me out! It's also been a while since I've painted anything, so I went ahead and bought a thing of simple green for the inevitable amount of stripping I'm going to be doing ><

What units have you got? It'll be easier to help out if we know (other than goblins)

It's the King of the Goblins, the Scribe, a metric boatload of the goblins and a couple of the special characters. I'm asking specifically for the painting on the goblins, since they're the most daunting tasks.

The ones from the hobbit boardgame released recently?? If you can get hold of a copy of White Dwarf, the latest one, there's a good tutorial for painting goblins.

It's a white undercoat, rakarth flesh over the top of that, a reikland fleshshade wash, rakarth flesh over the muscle areas leaving the recesses dark, with pallid wych flesh for a further highlight and the orange for the eyes.

then rhinox hide, mournfang brown, and skrag brown for the cloth

leadbelcher, nuln oil wash, and dry brushed with necron compound for the metal weapons. it works really well

if this link works, these are mine

Those are very good! I guess I'm gunna have to pick up some more paint while I'm at work. Does anyone else have any problems with the white basecoat spray? It's leaving ALOT of grey/unprimed raised areas on my models.

Yeh, I get that too, I've even switched to Army Painter white, but it's far, far superior to the GW version. I don't know how much it costs over in the States though
