As a new Tau player, I keep finding good stuff on this site, but a lot of people point me at Advanced Tau Tactica as well. The question I have is how do I sign up there? I can't seem to find a sign up or register button anywhere. Any help would be nice.

Probably a question best asked over there by contacting admins.

There is usually a way to contact admin by email in the event someone cannot register or there is some other specific problem.

I dont see anywhere listed to contact an admin though any other means than PM...which requires you to be logged in. Beginning to think its just not worth trying, why would someone make a forum with no registration for new members?

Are they active? Usually if people make it too hard to register it isn't worth it. Unless they have something very specific. I've been on forums where it seems like all the administrators and moderators are totally AFK.

As a discussion grows in length, the probability of a comparison to Matt Ward or Gray Knights approaches one.

They are active.

Try scrolling down to the space you sign in if you are a member, there should be a registration link there.

I asked the very same question about half a year ago.

It appears they don't want new people to join uninvited, or at all. because there is no registration link, anywhere.

I even tried to google-cheat to the registration page (thought they might be corny that way), it just gave me a "registration is disabled" message.

Other then that you got Tauonline, but that site has no active admines, and has tons of spambots, and things tend to delete themselves (I was once a member, then the enitre forum rested 4 months back and I didnt bother to register again)

And you also got Tautopia, but its rather small ATM.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

Forum traffic for ATT is really light, only a few posts a day, and most of the existing articles are for 5th ed. seems like they lost a huge portion of membership.

I don't think that's ATT specific. Most of the Tau related sites I check out regularly more ore less stopped producing content in the last 6 months or so.

Hey Isean -- this is Elliott, one of the moderators over at ATT. The Empire has spies everywhere, so it was only a matter of time until we learned of this post and sent a Water-caste representative to negotiate. (He painted himself green.)

A few months back, the ATT admin team temporarily disabled registration. We try to run our forums along the guiding principle "post with substance, or not at all"... and frankly, the past several years haven't been kind to Tau players, insofar as we've hard a great dearth of information to post about. We wanted to halt new registration until we had created some new material -- specifically our 6th edition Tau tacticas. We've started to craft those tacticas behind the scenes, and registration will return soon.

EDIT: And also, it looks like another moderator contacted you via private message. So more shooty, for the Empire, all that good stuff.

I'm so glad I found this thread. I've been trying to register as well. Thank you for the information Elliot, I shall keep my eyes peeled for registration to re-open. In the mean time, I'll keep drooling over some of the awesome paint jobs on the site.

Regards.

So you just ASSUME nobody has anything of value to add AT ALL? 6th editon was around for quite a while now, and between it and the FAQ the tau codex changed quite radically.

Hell, we are the only codex where mech might be even stronger then before, firewarriors turned from "meh" to "damn", stealth field completely changed mechanics and lots of other changes from wargear effects, to weapon interactions (like heatwaves actually being useful these days with the amazing anti-charge shield of overwatch)

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

So I too found this thread while looking for some way to register for ATT. I came to the conclusion that they have locked registration but there are still a bunch of good articles to read there. I knew they werent dead as I was actually online with one of the Senior Mods but had no way to contact him. Please someone post a reply here if you notice ATT open again for registration. thanks

Of course you have nothing of value to add, you aren't one of their article writers. There's no sense in discussing anything until the approved sources of wisdom have decided how every single unit in the codex is useful and awesome, no matter how bad it really is. Not that you'll need to register once they're done, of course, since once the approved sources of wisdom have spoken the same old bad advice will remain for years until a new edition arrives and they're forced to clean up the rule names a bit.

Well, maybe. They're not the worst place to start as a newbie, but everything they say requires a lot of skepticism. ATT's unwritten rule is that every unit in the codex must be useful, and their articles do a terrible job of explaining the difference between legitimately good units that will win games for you and garbage units that only have an article because "post with substance" means an article that consists of "don't use this unit" is not sufficient. So you'll get both good advice on how to set up your crisis suits, and endless rambling about "tactics" that can make a Sky Ray "useful".

So: use their articles to get started, but look elsewhere for real advice once you've figured out the basics.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

I quite agree. I recommend tau nooBs to ATT all the time as it does still have some good basics on playing tau.

I stopped actively going there when I tried to work an upper echelon idea in; it was met with ... resistance.

Anyway, once 5e hit, I shelved my tau and have only taken them out a couple times since (allies).

Hopefully, as Elliot hinted, there's going to be a good resurgence for 6e, and especially when the rumored new 'dex hits.

But it's gonna be a $50 book. I'm done buying codexes. Feth that non-sense. But I expect ATT members to step up and start filling some gaps!

I apologize for advertising another forum on DakkaDakka; no offense is meant. In response to the original posters question, ATT's registration has now been reactivated. All told, it was offline for about five or six weeks.

ATT is a joke. I got kicked off their site because my reply's or wording was not up to par w/ their elite Fio's. They take the hobby thing way to serious. You can go and read forums all you want w/o registering and I advise that's all you do. To register go into the login screen and go to the register tab. Only one worth a damn over at ATT is Tael and he's more of a modeler an awesome one at that. Best of luck!!

So they are a joke for having higher standards of what they want to be posted on their site? God forbid anyone care for proper grammar and spelling. /end

ATT is a pretty good site if you are really into Tau and want to know more about them. Yes their tactics for how to run the army is very simple but they are a good stepping stone for how to operate them. There are those that advocate just Deathrains or Fireknives on the Crisis Suits. I personally like having Helios on my command team and Fireknives on everything else. It really all depends on your meta. ATT is a nice guide for the new Tau players.
