This thought came up the other day, as I'm thinking about taking IG with allies. Daemons don't have any psychic powers, so i was really really curious to see what i could reliably do with psychic powers and allies. Primaris psykers can take the Telepathy discipline, with the primaris being psychic shriek. Now i looked at that and i saw that the sanctioned psykers can't take psychic powers from the BRB, and can only take psychic powers from the IG codex. But one of the psychi powers that they have standard is weaken resolve. Weaken resolve lowers their leadership by one for each sanctioned psyker in the unit, to a minimum of two. Then Psychic shriek makes them take a leadership test on 3d6 and take a wound with no armor or cover saves for each point failed by.

Now we look at the combo, take 8-9 sanctioned psykers, and stick a primaris with them and there you have it. They are two LD tests (on LD9 each) and two failed deny the witch rolls away from inflicting 8-9 wounds only save-able by invulns and FNP. If the unit they are targeting is not fearless, they will then proceed to run away, and then proceed to fail their regroup next turn, most likely making them run off the board. Or if you have a unit within 12" of them after they have failed their initial LD test, you can charge them and make them take another LD test (on LD2) or have them removed from play.

The only problem is that the range on psychic shriek is 12", so you would need to get the primaris close reliably without him dying. This is where i would invest in a vendetta or a valkyrie (to your taste) and stick them in it before the game starts. Then when they come in, they can deep strike after the vendetta has moved onto the table 36" and then they can shoot. I think the better thing though would be to flat out the vendetta on the turn it comes in, and then disembark the squad by putting the vendetta into hover. If the enemy doesn't kill the vendetta on the first turn it comes in, you are reliably getting them within 12" of any unit on the board.

I'm thinking about trying this out as an ally template in a tournament coming up in a month or so. Problem is, i don't know if it would work or if it is even worth the points. 180 points for the psyker squad with the primaris, and 100-130 for a valkyrie/vendetta. Plus i could take a veterans squad with an aegis to camp on a home objective, maybe even add a comms relay in there.

Any thoughts on the tactic?

Not worth it. Add up the chances to fail either psychic test, fail DTW, or miss with the shooting attack and you'll see that it's incredibly unreliable and worse than just spending those points on more guns and killing the target.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.
