Hi,
Umm if its for xmas why not give it to him for my first idea. If you going to sell it to him see how much he wants to spend and base your price on that. But make sure he has got enough for some paint, glue, codex and other extras. roughly brand new your army is about $330 odd (brand new) . But i would recommend basing it on what your mate wants to spend and make sure he gets the most for his money rather than him spending a lot on the models then just leaving them idle for years.

My Rule of thumb: good undamaged models without terrible paint you offer 50% off retail. Poorly painted or assembled models which need repair or simple green, 65% off retail.

If they haggle because they think their stuff is worth more, can jump in a lake.

I would go to GW and shopping cart up the lot, then divide by 2.

RULE OF COOL: When converting models, there is only one rule: "The better your model looks, the less people will complain about it."

Have you looked at your local game store to see if anybody was selling anything? When I was looking at getting started a friend took me out to the store that he plays at and I was talking to the employee. I said I was interested in the Necron army and after he warned me that it was an old outdated codex he said he knew a couple of people selling their armies and he put me in touch with them. For $120 I ended up buying an army that if I took all the upgrades could get above 2000 points. Some stuff was partially assembled, some stuff was painted poorly but it gave me a base to start with. I could play games while taking out a few models to repaint or fix.

It may have been a good deal but if it hadn't been so cheap I probably would never have gotten started with the hobby.

First army 2500 points mostly painted.

50% off US retail prices maybe.
50% off Canadian retail prices? Not a chance.

considering how over inflated GW website prices are i would hesitate to offer 50%.

as a canadian that orders from US online discounters, i get 50% off canadian retail prices ON BRAND NEW PLASTIC KITS.

i would offer 65% off US retail, and that's if the models were decent. 80-90% off badly done models in bad condition. thick primer, too much plastic glue makes them almost garbage worthy in my eyes.

I must be a weird person to actually think that unpainted ASSEMBLED models are actually worth *more* to me than new in box models.. Time is money and assembling (and removing mold lines) sucks.

The difference is with unassembled models you have to option to convert and pose however you like, with whatever wargear you like, with minimal effort in actually changing them.
