I'm going to create an army of Easterlings led by Amdur (Lord of Blades), with the Knight of Umbar on a fell beast and some Isengard Orcs thrown in ('cos I found one of the old, 24 models boxes of morannon orcs). The "Ultimate" goal is to get the army up to 1500 points so that it can play games of any size using the existing models in different combinations. I'd like to know what you guys think of the list. I don't own any edition of the rules, just a Fallen Realms Sourcebook ^^

Amdur, Lord of blades - 100 points
12 Easterlings (Black Dragons), 12 shields, 4 pikes - 124 points

Easterling Captain with bow - 50 points

gak man, 1,500 points of LOTR stuff? I'm going to assume you're new to this. 1,500 points is an ABSOLUTELY MASSIVE sized game. A game is usually 1,000 points max if you want it to take a reasonable amount of time.

As for your list . . .
Get more pikes. One of the strengths of the Easterlings is their pikes but they can also use shields. IIRC they can become Defence 6, which is very nice!

The list itself doesn't look bad. Khandish Chariots are very good and very fun to play with and against. Just need more pikes!

Needs more pikes, and less minis. 1500 points for LOTR is way to big, beside that it lookes somewhat decent

me and my brother played one scenario out of the book, he was using all of thorins company (roughtly 1000points) and i was using goblin town (400 odd points- scenario special rules made up for the points diff)

the game took us 5 hours. now there was a few things that will reduce this time (Like knowing all the rules to makes smoother turns etc) but anything over 1000 to 1500points start looking at War of the ring

I realized that 1500 points might be a tad bit too much, and I came up with a 500 point list to use instead (will probably expand to War of the Ring when I get enough models).

Warband 1
Amdur, Lord of blades - 100 points

Warband 2
Easterling Captain with bow - 50 points
8 Easterlings, 8 bows - 64 points
Total: 114 points

Warband 3
Easterling Captain with shield, riding an armoured horse - 65 points
5 Easterling Kataphrakts, banner, war drum - 110 points
Total: 175 points

Army Total: 489 points

To make it 500 (497-498) points, I'll add an Easterling to the archer warband, armed with whatever I can scrounge up (probably a pike and shield).

In my opinion 2000pts is the max if you are playing someone you know are they are happy with how long the game might take but this all depends on which scenario. Because you are using a large army you do not want to play a game that will end quickly and leave most of your models alive. Hold ground and hold the high ground are always good ones to do as you get into combat quick and your best models get to hold the objectives and rack up the kills but its always good to aspire to build up an army of that size so you have better choice in other smaller games.
