Whats a good basis for a necron army nowadays? I used to play necrons, and the only stuff i have left now is Vargard Obyron's model. So, if someone could show me maybe a tactica or something listing all the pros and cons of each units, what their good at etc, synergy that would be really helpful!

step 1: go to Google
step 2: type "necrons 6th edition tactics"
step 3: read through suggested inks (eg. http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Warhammer_40,000/6th_Edition_Tactics/Necrons)

I would recommend utilizing those handy forum search tools. Here, I'll even get you started:

Who's in charge of maintaining Dakka's own Necron Tactica?
http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Necron_Tactica_6th

The thing is full of too much opinion to be viewed as reliable.
(not to mention, it's not even complete!)

I'm currently working on a more detailed tactics thread and will PM it to yak once I'm finished. I agree with the current one being very opinion-driven and incomplete (no, I did not write it!).

I always make sure to take a blob of 2/3 squads of warriors with a lord wih a ress orb. The size varies a bit as the points go up.

Take your heavy hitters from the fast attack slots. Scarabs are good against vehicles but take decent size squads cuz they die quite fast. S6 insta kills them..Wraiths are quite good as well,.. but i have only 3 so i probably have to few to find them real awesome.

Since you have Obyron idd suggest buying Nemesor Zahndrek cuz those 2 work well. And Zahndrek has a ress orb,... always nice

I mainly walk forward as a giant wall of death while my fast attack units fly forward taking out high priority targets before they die
But a lot of people play in different styles... my tactics are mostly focussed against imperial guard and space marines. So what i do might not even work against lets say Tyranids etc.

Tactics only go so far..

Seriously, who writes a tactica with statements like "What I usually do is--"?
The whole thing reeks of amateurness.
(I'm guessing it was some new kid who just started playing)

Out of Curiousity, what should i buy to start my army? I have enough cash to buy 3 boxes of stuff. e.g, 2 warrior boxes 1 CCB.

Battleforce box and Command Barge box is the usual starting recommendation.
After that, you've gotta create a list for higher point games and buy things you need for it from there.

at least people still seem interested in necrons, all the GK folks bailed lol. No one even requests our tactical anymore. Heck given how every single battle report with GK's in it seem to be losing, I can't really blame them much lol.

That's powergamers for you: "Oh wow, this army wins all the time! I should start playing them! ... What this? There's a NEW army that wins all the time? Time to switch!"

(they don't bother trying to learn how to play effectively with what they'e got, they just want an army they can put on auto-pilot to win them games... I don't even get why those f**king guys play)

...because winning with GK in 5th was SO HARD!!!!111

Tbh, the GK codex still is far from balanced. The main flaws, mainly ridiculously undercosted upgrades (looking at you, psy-ammunition!) still stand. It's just that the iceberg's tip has been blunted in 6th. And rightfully so.

Haha yeah I am looking forward to DA being over the top cheese so all the guys that jumped on the Cron Air band wagon move again.

General Cron Tactics then, eh?

Never let your Troops get into combat.
Don't spend to much on HQ, Royal Court's and their upgrades.
Boyz before Toyz.
Crons don't do DeathStars (D.Lord + Wraiths is the closest we are going to get)
Crons greatest strength is their Resilience and Mobility

speaking of oddities, anyone use C'tan shards anymore? If so, what loadouts are still good now a days?

I've yet to see the RCDI in action but after reading about it makes me thinks it is stupidly expensive. I don't deny it will totally destroy pretty much any unit in the game in one turn of combat, getting into combat without having everything firing at it will be a problem. The EL rule is really the backbone of this unit but when you fail a RP roll your losing 75 - 120 ppLord much less if its a Crypteks and if its the Crypteks with the VoD or any other important war gear your boned.

I can see a RCDI working a few time before you opponent figures how beat it, IE Large Blast, Low AP, Fearless Hoards, Bucket loads of wounds, consolidating so they can't RP, High mobility army.

Dangerous Terrain changes made the C'tans WW trick less of a an issue and that was one of the best tricks.
The C'tan suffers like most other MC, slow, can't join another unit, poison weapons, big model,

My biggest fault with the C'tan is the low amour save, +4 is a joke, Sure with T7 bolters are wounding on 6's, your still going to fail 1/2 the time. If you could tuke a naked C'tan for 185 that would be better but you have to take two powers which can rack up the points.
I used to take the C'tan with Pieshards and Moulder of Worlds, to make a shooty MC but even that is overcoasted and pretty meh.

The C'tan does come with a ok stateline... For crons. lol. WS5 I4 W4 being the only difference. With the new DA rumors the Lord Of Fire could become a huge bane.

C'Tan shards work fine.

...as bookends.

Ridiculously overcosted, little gain and very weak now with the T nerf down to 7. Take a few spyders, they are far superior.
