So I'm thinking of routinely running my space marines alongside some IG allies, the idea being that these units are comprised of people the chapter (emperor's swords, 3rd re-founding) are considering for recruitment... kind of like a pre-neophyte stage. My chapter is a space faring one, prefering the isolation/security of a "cleaned up" space hulk that they've returned to some semblance of working order to the potential vulnerability of any home planet.

So! Anyone know of some planets near the Eye of terror that could provide some suitable levies for a space marine chapter?

** this has been automatically appended to the previous post thingy

I'll be doing some research as well, and in case anyone is interested, I'll be posting some planets as I find em.

Gundrun: Probably not this planet. The 2nd(?) founding of the emperor's swords were annihilated because the population of the planet they were based on was subverted by the alpha legion... so a planet that was once ruled by heretics working in secret might worry them
Thracian Primaris: Not bad, a long, proud military history. Might be a bit stuffy for me. But might be worth looking into further. Also nice that I happen to own the book that this place is mentioned in.
Agripinaa: Also promising. Kind of bland though, just your run of the mill forgeworld. However, it was messed up pretty bad in the good ol 13th black crusade, so maybe I could figure out something interesting to do there.

Subiaco Diablo is a Hive World in the Belis Corona subsector near the Cadian Gate. Its capital is Hive Siana. This world came under assault early during the 13th Black Crusade, with a fiendish unnatural disease turning many of its inhabitants into Plague Zombies.
It is home to a small garrison of Battle Sisters from the Minor Order of the Ermine Mantle, and the Relictors Space Marine Chapter wrested a daemon blade from the Word Bearers here, but beyond this, little is known about this place. It's safe to say, however, that any Hive World should yield a veritable tithe in manpower for the Imperial Guard, much like Necromunda or Armageddon.

Subiaco Diablo was assaulted by a splinter fleet of Tyranids during the Eye of Terror campaign (13th Black Crusade).

The following are the pre and post assault levels of Imperial control.
Subiaco Diablo 70% 58.3% In the Balance

The Sisters of Battle from the Order of the Ermine Mantle, led by Canoness Astra (a player created order and an actual player's character during the worldwide campaign) were instrumental in defending the world and the other major system in the sector, the Belis Corona system and its shipyards.

Small correction: Canoness Astra's convent was the Order of the Silver Lily (see here). She was the agreed-upon leader and campaign-representative of the Battle Sisters active around the Cadian Gate, and instrumental in organising the relief of the Belis Corona system while the rest of the Imperium was busy having their assaults get turned into trench-fights binding their forces.

The Order of the Ermine Mantle was indeed a GW invention. I'm sure the player behind Canoness Astra might otherwise dislike being declared dead in the background fluff for Sister Anastasia and Saint Joachim's blade.
