I've been getting into painting a bit over the last couple of months and have decided to paint up a Fifth Company Imperial Fists army. I've painted a couple of test models, one of which is shown.

According to my reading, I've done a couple of things that defy the fluff:
1. Imperial fists guns are black and grey/silver
2. The iconography should be a black fist on yellow or white

I've done these things to break up the monotony of yellow/black. I've never actually played a game at a FLGS. I'm pretty confident that no one will even notice, let alone care, but there is a part of me that is a little concerned that my fluff-defying antics may be poorly received.

Should I change the paint style or do I need a chill pill?

You need a chill pill.

So does anyone who objects to the way you paint your mandollies.

They're Imperial fists - they're yellow, they have a fist icon (and besides, Crimson fists are THEIR offshoot, so perhaps the pauldron has been "borrowed" and they believe that repainting it will anger the machine spirit (stupider things have been done by marines).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

At the end of the day: Are you happy with the colour scheme of your Marines? If no, change 'em. If yes, make it better.

Better to work on painting technique and other stuff rather than worrying about what others think about it!

Theres a guy at my FLGS who has a black with pink trim meched up IG army. All of his rhinos have hello kitty heads, and all of his stuff looks amazing. Its amazingly detailed and well done. I've only ever heard one guy fluffhammering him and he got shut down by everyone else with a brain.

Chill pill.

Screw fluff! As much as this game is about the history of each group, and that fluff is typically what draws a player to their particular army, it's really only a little part of the game.

The other part is about it being YOUR army. Paint it as you wish, play it as you wish. If somebody cocks off and complains about "Oh, your fists aren't done right," they need to pull the spikey chaos marine out of their butt.

Side note:
I've seen some very cool pink marines myself

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?

OP here.

Thanks dakka, you guys have certainly quelled my concerns. I will stop worrying about the colours on my space dollies and paint them how I like them!
