Hey all, thought id post up some information and pics of the texture 'overlay' I made for my Stormraven's base. All my Blood Angels have B2B ix 'ruins' resin bases, which have slabs of intact and broken concrete blocks/ slabs/ pavers etc, and sections of sandy rubble on them. http://www.back2base-ix.com/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=18

As I couldn't find anything like this for a flyer I thought I'd use some MDF to replicate the resin pattern. I took some 4mm MDF and drew out the outline, and brought it in a couple of mm so it would sit just inside the top of the base. I then drew on a 13mm square pattern and used a Dremel with a small cutting wheel and a metal ruler to lightly carve in the lines.

I then cut the lot out with a jigsaw. I also put in some busted out sections as well round the edge, and used the Dremel again with a wood router bit to carve out the hole for the flight stand. After that I glued it onto the base with some pva, and some sand in the broken sections, and MDF offcuts and more sand on top. I then sprayed it black, gave it a basecolour of mechanicum grey, a wash of Agrax earthshade, drybrushed the mechanicum grey back on and stuck down some Army Painter bushes/grass clumps.

I still need to clean up around the edge of the base, add some more colours and whatnot, but its 95% done. Not bad for a an hour's total work, and I think it meshes nicely with the resin bases.

C+ C most welcome

Looks great! I agree it would look good alongside the B2B bases.

Nice idea indeed. I have made individual slabs out of GS before but this is a much better idea for a large base.
