Hello everyone, went to a little basement get together at Throatbangers house last week and just wanted to give it the battle report this kind of event deserves.
This was a 4 player round robin, with a 10 dollar buy in. Small price to pay as the winner got to spend the night and the 2nd and 3rd place guys got a box of physic cards or the new dice set with objective markers. Finally our fourth place person would get a 1 year subscription of Kaspersky Pure.
Round 1
I draw the other Nid player in the 4 player round robin.
I've played with him before and he looks 95% like John Mayer,
John Mayer's army is from what I can remember. - Flyrant, Dual Devo's.... 3 Tervigons (1 being warlord)..... 6 Hive Guard and 2 Zonethropes. Each of the Tervigons has a full load out of physic powers and there are plenty of giblets on the field.
My army - Swarmlord - Tervigon (3 Powers
TS/
AG) Gibletsx10 - 20 DevilGibblets in a pod - Carnifex in a pod - Carnifex in a pod - Trygon Prime.
The round 1 game play is a silo based mission where 6 silos are placed down the middle of the field about 12inches apart making a line.
Objective of the game is simple, control more silo's by the end of the game. Line breaker and warlord are also in play.
Pre-Game, being in a field of players of this "talent" makes it hard for me to focus, but I know I'll need great focus to keep any chances of winning the grand prize! John Mayers army gives me big problems, I've brought a ton of dakka fire, but I'm not sure I'll be able to force those fat ladies from the objectives in the middle.
Turn 1, I get to go first, my army has very little to deploy turn 1 so I place 1 Tervigon on the back right objective along with his giblets she poops out 11 more and is done turn 1 , and place Swarmlord dead center. He doesn't have a ton of fire that can hurt a T8 (on average) Swarmlord. I move Swarmlord down the middle, he's gonna be needed to help clear out the middle two objectives, I know already I won't be able to clear out the back two, so I need to try and get Swarmlord somewhere he can make a difference.
Turn 1 for John Mayer and he starts to poop the troops, he creates giblets all over the place and moves towards my army with a swarm that makes me realize how much danger I am in. No shots either way and we basically know the next turn all hell is going to break loose.
Turn 2 - I'm bringing the pain, with Swarmlord and my pods coming in on 2's I still manage to roll a 1 on 1 Carnifex. Swarmlord had actually gotten portal from one of the trees and he jumps 24" forward into the fray, basically dead center of the battle field. 1 Carnifex drops in, and unloads full dakka fire on giblets, they go flying apart like leaves and 1 whole group is destroyed straight out. Devilgaunts come in hot and spread out around there spore, 60
STR 4 shots eliminate another squad of giblets. Trygon Prime explodes forth, rubble flying in all directions, his target in the open he sends spines into more giblets, more death follows. When the dakka smoke clears many a giblet had died, the line had been shaken, but the Tervigons were still up and ready to bring forth death.
John Mayer Turn 2 - To my happiness his Tervigons all stop crapping. In a brazen move, (such as dating and dropping the hotness that is Miss Taylor Swift!) John Mayer slams his Tervigons right into battle, with the charge many of them have 6+ AP2 attacks, 1 Carnifex falls unable to withstand the sheer force of the enraged mother. The devil-giblets are no match for the combined fleshbore fire and a tervigon which flies at them crushing claws swinging! His flyrant did not come into the battle, but my Trygon Prime takes multiple shots from the hive guard, three wound, as the creature tries to find the source of the rail guns!!! John Mayer now charges another Tervigon into Swarmlord, it would have happened regardless next turn so he hopes to bog him down with giblets and a Tervigon, a ballsey move for sure (just like going for Katy Perry right after her split from rock legend Russell Brand)
S8 T8 picks up the charging beast as it comes at him, this was no easy battle, the Tervigon had witnessed its litter of giblets be destroyed and was enraged, (iron armed) up to S7 T8, it mattered not. The two monsters crashed together in an explosion that sent shockwaves throughout the battlefield. As the Tervigon brought its massive crushing claws to finish the leader of the rival Tyranid army, Swarmlord was just a moment faster, with quickness that should not be possessed by something so large, Swarmlord moved under the crushing claws and in one blow his bone sabre removed the Tervigons head.
Turn 3 - Some back story is needed here guys, another part of this mission was on turn 2 "silo guards" deep struck into the battle, these were counted as a third army which would attack whatever was closest to them. One group of silo guards deep strikes very far back into John Mayer's side and actually helped me out by typing up a full group of giblets. The 2nd group misshaped and was destroyed!
Back on track, I can see I'm in a lot of danger now, 1 carnifex was destroyed, my devil-gaunts were a distant memory and even though Swarmlord was in battle, he wasn't in a position where he was going to make it into the fray this turn. With most of John Mayer's troops in the backfield or destroyed I turn my attention to the 1 tervigon that is up near the middle objectives, he's pooped out so I know I just need to kill the giblets he pooped out last turn, What better choice then a carnifex! My last pod drops in and the carnifex unloads destroying everything I needed him to, leaving the Tervigon the only unit alive. In my backfield I've secured the 2 objectives I started with.
Turn 3- John Mayer cleans up the small squad of "guardians" from the random scenario we were playing and moves out. Another Tervigon slams into the Tyrgon Prime after the flyrant (which came in hot) shoots a load of
ST 6 at Swarmlord but fails to deal any wounds. The Hive Guard also pumps shots into Swarmlord dealing 3 wounds!
As the rest of his army advances 2 Tervigons score
CC with a Trygon Prime and Carnifex, when the battles end, both Tervigons have destroyed two more monsters!!!
At this point turn 4 will be the last turn.
Turn 4 - To be honest I know I've lost, I turn Swarmlord as if to taunt the flyrant, but he can't do anything, so he just sits near the middle right silo, not that he can claim it. My backfield I spread out the giblets behind the 2 silo's I control hoping to be out of charge range. The original turn one giblets run and make it close enough to the silo Swarmlord controls to claim it.
Turn 4 - John Mayer would have easily won this game had we gone to turn 5 or beyond, but with his army slowed by the random troops in his backfield and he won't be able to clean up the right middle silo that Swarmlord and my giblets hold. The flyrant can't get a clean shot on the giblets in the middle so he targets Swarmlord, and fires everything he has, sadly he fails to finish the mission of killing the bad ass. Combined fire from the hive guard also can't bring down the S9 T9 Swarmlord.
John Mayer has one chance, a 9 inch charge from a tervigon to contest the silo in my backfield..........
and a
Thank the matrix...........
The game ends, we each control 3 Silo's which means we are tied. 7 points each, we also each get 1 point for not having the "bad guys" destroy any the silo's (in their rules they would fire at us or the silo’s whatever is closest) We also get 1 point each for not having any of our units destroyed by the "bad guys"
Game ends -
9-9 DRAW! But puts us tied for 2nd/3rd as the other games was a blowout where Frisbee King destroyed Throatbanger all game with his 3 flyer combo
IG and Chaos army only to have 2 of his units break off the backfield silo’s last game and his Helldrakes not be able to flame out Throatbangers lone standing scoring unit on a middle silo!
So current standing after 1 game.
Throatbanger - 10
John Mayer/Me - 9
Frisbee King - 1
