Subject: 1500pts., CSM blob squads and you....

So one of the things that seems to be appearing a lot in discussions abut the new Chaos dex is the idea of a 15 man squad equipped for CC with the MoS and Icon of excess. I have also seen and thought about similar squads with different marks and weapon combos. I thought it might be fun to try and incorporate this into my 1500 point army because I typically don't upgrade my standard marines at all so this would be something different. My issue is that at 1500 points (which is the most common game size at my flgs) I can't seem to work them in without making a lot of sacrifices. They seem to get too expensive too quick and I'm not entirely sure they would be worth the trade-off at the 1500pt level. I'm wondering if anyone who has tried these types of units at this point range could chime in and give me some advice. Any discussion would be greatly appreciated!
EDIT: I wanted to add that I would also be interested in hearing from those who have played AGAINST CSM blob squads in this new edition. What did you think? Was hard to deal with, etc. Thanks in advance!

Edit: I just googled ablutions and apparently it does not including dropping a duece. I should have looked it up early sorry for any confusion. - Baldsmug

Wait, what were we talking about again? Did I ever tell you about the time I gave you five bees for a quarter? That's what you'd say in those days, "give me five bees for a quarter", is what you'd say in those days. And you'd go down to the D&D shop, with an onion in your belt, 'cause that was the style of the time. So there I was in the D&D shop..." |

Thanks for the advice! That's kind of the conclusion I'm coming to for the 1500 point army. I'm going to knock them down to 10 men at the smaller point level and add another 5 when I go up to 1850/2000. Even at that point level though, I'm still not totally convinced it's worth it. Will give it a try though as I'm itching to do something new with my army. Anyone else have any advice/comments?

While I haven't played with one at the 1500 pt level, I have loved them at the 1850/2000 pt level. I run a 15 man squad with mark of nurgle and they are tough to get off of objectives. With something to make the fearless, they become really fearsome.

MoS and Excess or MoN and Vengeance are the combos I use for larger than 10 man squads. Either I5 with FNP or T5 and Fearless depending on what you need them to do. I have also had good results with 16 CSM with MoK and Wrath, 2 squads of those guys backed up by two 10 man Berzerker units is a ton of maniacs running straight at you...
Between the Excess squad and the Nurgle/Fearless squad I would go Nurgle just because I suck at rolling FNP when I really need it. Give them a PW champ and a couple of Plasmas and just dominate a section of the board.
