One of my sons plays CSM, and I play VM's (Imperial Fists). I am toying with grabbing dark Vengeance, but I want to know how the DA will measure up against my VM, what with the new dex coming out in a few days. I had looked into them pre Dark Vengeance, but I was underwhelmed, and I don't want to put all that painting effort in (I love to paint - LOVE the new models)) on something I would likely not play over my VM. I was thinking on another army all together before but I had not narrowed it down much.
So really this thread is a should I or shouldn't I. I want to grab dark vengeance from eBay for cheaper in case the new dex rocks and I get stuck with hobby store price.

You can grab Dark Vengeance then ally them into your Imperial Fists. That way, you get a nice break from painting yellow, get to paint the new models, and get to try out a new army one piece at a time.

I thought about that. It boils down to whether I want to invest the time or not. Don't get me wrong, the models look hella fun, I guess I just don't want to spend the time if it turns out that they are inferior.

Dont buy something because you MIGHT like it.......

Worst case scenario they're still Marines in power armor and you can run them as another tac squad in your Imperial Fists with different colors.

I like the models. I guess I am hoping that the codex is a little better than the last one.

They'll be better than vanilla, that is almost certain just because they are not vanilla, whether or not they will match up to the BA, SW, GK codex. Why not buy dark vengeance, your son can have the chaos, and you leave the angels unpainted until the codex comes out, if you don't like the new dex, paint them vanilla, or sell them as I'd imagine after the release demand will be high.

From what I've seen lurking around, the new Dark Angels are going to be pretty darn intense, but then again, every man and his dog are going to be doing them next weekend. Like Brother SRM said, you could always ally them up?

So it does look like the dex might be good, even a tad bit better? I am not looking for quotes here, but you think it might be better? That would lock it down because I also wanted something as a second army. I find VM kind of underwhelming TBH.

It'll probably be fairly good if previous codeci are anything to go by...
Especially since it'll be one of the few written for 6th ed.
