Over the time I've been playing warhammer 40k I noticed that some people made a story for their custom armies while others just decided to play the base armies (ex.ultramarines,Tau'n,Saim-hann,etc.) nothing is wrong with that it just eats my creative side with not making my custom army more "alive" with a story to influence my kit-bashing, and now to tell you the story of my army.

During the fall of the Eldar and during the craft-worlds' evacuation a small craft-world known as Twe-noc which, having very few aspect warriors had to rely heavily on guardians and rangers. Eventually the farseers of Twe-noc found that if they worked with the new tau empire they would find safety for their people. Meanwhile a tau force was expanding the fourth sphere and found home in a mountainous world called Dai'loc. This planet was discovered to have contained two races of abhumans that varied from odd mutants that resembled the hrud but shown more human like characteristics and larger beastmen that varied in appearance yet shared the same bestial rage among each variety. Yet these races seemed to join the tau with unexpected ease, all was going well for the Tau yet one day psyker from one of the abhuman tribes for-told of more alien races joining them. That is when a strange planet sized ship found it's way into the sub-sector they revealed themselves as the Eldar of Twe-noc and the foundations for the Confederation were formed. Later after an attack by the tyranids a force of Blood-axes led by Kurnal git-stompa were sent off course (by ork standards) and were sent to the eastern fringe. Once they crashed on a desert planet they were able to recuperate and found that the planet was infested by tyranids that were left behind during the hive fleets retreat so the orks did what they did best fighting and winning. They were nearly defeated if not for the intervention of the united forces of the tau and eldar this led to the orks joining them, for a small fee of course.

And that is how the Confederation formed and is what inspires my modelling projects and paintschemes for my armies

Ok... these would have to be some really smart/crafty orks. Sound pretty good though and could be fun to play. I don't know much about Tau or eldar but I think you could expand on this. For example explain why Twe-Noc is so small, maybe they are running from a greater enemy (Ex. they have an imperial hostage?). Maybe give a bit more imformation about the Tau. And maybe explain why the orks and abhumans were so willing to join the confederation. Maybe some of the ab-humans went with a fight? Everything just seem's a bit to... happy... to be the 41st millenium. There should be some sort of plot twist. An imperial crusade? An ordo xenos squad? I don't know. Just in general it's a good foundation but you need to elaborate.

I do agree with the whole too happy thing the only reason it's like that so i could hopefully expand based on the games i play and use that to tell a good story.
In example if a new special character comes out like an actual blood axe character than i could say the last kurnal died in one battle where he actually was slain in a match and incorporate that so i could get a more flushed out story.

but still thank you for the feedback

Write some story of it bro. Describe the tyranid battle scene agaisnt the orks. Give them depth. Cool idea about the federation, its fresh.

But a lot of 40k guys might say its not dark enough. While thats true in some aspects the point being if you like it who cares? If you make an interesting story with characters that have depth thats what you'll have

Run with it and let it take you where it leads, maybe a few other races are added to the pot to grim it up a bit, who knows only you. A 40k story can start hopeful and have a niceish ending, all that's required is some dark times in there somewhere with a pinch of tragedy thrown in along the line. Don't let people change your story just because it's not dark enough for them.

well one idea i was running through my head is that a group of tech-priests that were studying biological improvements to essentially "grow" machines, but the magos was ridiculed for this idea causing him to research xenos on the eastern fringe but when he finally reached the farthest reaches he still found nothing that is when he was touched by chaos and in his desperation he took the bait. his flesh was turned to liquid iron most of the crew thought this a miracle but those following the emperor saw the truth and that this was the work of chaos. Civil war erupted and the ship was nearly destroyed if not for navigator Ki'esa who took hold of the ship and landed (more like crashed) the ship on a mountainous world untouched by civilization and inhabited only by beasts. The ensuing fallout of radiation mutated the crew and evolved some of the beasts into semi-intelligent man-beasts, while the crew being closer to the mutagens changed into rat-tyranid-abhumans when they recovered the new race shown next to no relation to humans except for their worship of the emperor. this is the planet that later becomes home of the Confederation.

This sums it all up. Happy endings are more than a good choice, sometimes it is actually what fits the story the best. As the mans said, for this to work grimdark is reuierd in massive doses at times though. So pour on the mayhem and blood shed of war every now and then all will be fine.

I'd usually advise against creating a large confederation of alien races... It doesn't really suit 40k IMO.
If I were you it'd make more sense to have a rogue Tau sept which has hired Eldar and other xenos mercenaries.
This would also let you feasibly include rogue mechanicus personnel and even orks...

Yeah a civil war in the confed nearly wipeing them all out but the good just coming out on top or the good winning after a while and when it's all said and done they realise there's a cancer growing in their ranks for example.
