Drop Trooper with Demo Charge

Well pretty much the title.

I'm wondering what sorts of interesting tactics people have used for their Imperial guard stormtroopers.
Aside from the usual 5 man melta suicide squad and other more "generic" ways of using them, what are some of the ways in which they could work?

For example, using them as area denial or as a defensive "sit behind cover" units. What are some of the more creative ways that you have used or have seen these units used.
Hope for some replies as I like finding out more unorthodox tactics for various units.

I employ mine extremely aggressively , Ten Stormtroopers , x2 Plasma guns , x2 plasma pistols on the sergeant , use em for assassination of MEQ and TEQ. HQ's and MC's expensive but fun as hell when you have 14 AP3 shots and 6 AP2 shots ( assuming deep strike hazard taking ) I have found its made back its points 9/10

The short story is, sadly, they don't.

Long story, they're costed like Space Marines with the statline of Guardsmen, they've got a lot of equipment and special rules their statline just cannot support.

While their AP3 weapons would seem to make them great Marine hunters, in a shooting engagement it merely puts them on equal footing against a bolter-equipped Marine unit, in terms of trading casualties, while being inferior in every other way. The AP3 is grossly over-valued, and against other decently armored infantry infantry, say, Striking Scorpions, Dire Avengers, Fire Warriors, Sisters, etc, you can get better performance for the investment from other units.

Additionally, while oddly equipped for CC with a pistol and CCW, they're otherwise basic guardsmen, and are really only going to beat weeny units in CC, even if the ST's get off a charge, a basic Tac squad will beat Stormtroopers in CC.

They have too many toys their statline cannot back up for a price that pay a far too heavy premium because GW thinks AP3 is worth like 5ppm.

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

Strength 4, ap3 with 24" range. Then we'd be talking.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

I like the Storm Troopers for scouting up to a Skyshield platform and activating it in praparation for the arrival of 3 Valkyries full of Plasma-laden units midfield!

They are ideal for the job given their scout ability and they can carry enough nasty weapons to hold their own long enough to protect the Shield from furling or unfurling as the need may be. 5 can hide pretty well behind and around the legs of the Skyshield.

Try out all 3 of their special missions or whatever they're called. I always have fun and learn something new/surprise an opponent when I outflank with a 10 man stormie squad.

As said before, don't expect much from their guns. The strength 3 really hurts how many MEQs you can take down considering the same squad will probably do more damage the following turn and cost the same (or less) and still score.

Yeah, I find trying some of the other special abilities can be cool . Normally, they aren't as good, but they can surprise an opponent when they end up doing something they aren't expecting (face it, when you take Stormies everyone expects them to be a meltacide squad). Not very competitive, if that's what your after, but for a bit of fun they can be a cool unit to throw into the mix
