Painting up some Mordians but not sure what do to with the Lieutenant. He'll be with a special weapon squad (melta or GL) and supporting some shooty platoons.

Chainsword?
Power sword?
Power fist?
Power Axe?
Power wacking stick?

I'm inclined to keep the chainsword.

The way I see it, if your guys get into CC, and they weren't supposed to, well, they're dead.

The points spent towards upgrading them for CC could be better spent on more guns and armor.

I put a power fist on my commanders occassionally. That stupid fist has paid for itself many times over, when it really shouldn't.

Say what you want about IG, but their Company Commanders can hold their own in a fight surprisingly well.

Other than the fist though, I usually just keep it as laspistol/CCW, with the CCW being whatever looks cool that I can get away. Swagger sticks, cavalry sabres, a scary lookin set of binoculars, etc.

If its a company commander, fists are cool and sometimes come in handy, as a 3 wound model with 5++ and look out sir is surprisingly hard to kill. Platoon commanders, however, should stay well away from special CCW's as they die in a stiff breeze.

For company commanders, I'm partial to a power fist. No real point in giving him a power weapon when you can take a fist. Otherwise, I traditionally give my SO nothing. I've just started to become partial to the idea of giving him a plasma pistol, though. He's got good BS, and multiple wounds after all.

For the JO's, dont' bother giving them upgrades. Where an SO can survive for a turn or two in close combat, JOs are very, very unlikely to do so, what with worse WS, fewer wounds, and a lack of invul save. Meanwhile, giving a plasma pistol to a BS3 model seems a little sketchy, espeically when, as mentioned, he only has one wound.

Meanwhile, bolt weapons screw up your nice "divisible by 5" points cost of everything else, and I don't think I've ever gotten an officer into a place where I wish I had a meltabomb.

There's a bit in the...shock attack box? Maybe it was company command box...Anyways it's a hand dangling down holding a helmet. Sissies use weapons for laying down the smack, real men use piece of their armor, like a nice heavy helmet.

Usually nothing on Company Commander, if I am doing a melee squad I'd go for Strakken.

CCS: laspistol, CCW, flak armor.
PCS: laspistol, CCW, flak armor.
Sergeant: laspistol, CCW, flak armor.

Occasionally if I have 20 points to spare and can't come up with anything better I'll give a company commander dual plasma pistols to add a 5th special weapon to the squad.

BS 4.

Normally with my lieutnenant I give him the boltgun and GL's in the pcs. Or sometimes i mix it up with a HB, 2 x GL, and a boltgun. When I use this setup it works fairly well for me. I try to use the pcs more as a fire support squad for the platoon, so I keep them behind the rifle squads normally.

I also got an old commissar with a powerfist AND power weapon. Is the fist useful at all these days?

It's in the Command Squad box.

Powerfists have worked off with my marines, but I haven't used 'em with my guard yet. Wacking sticks are cooler, ye know.

Exactly how I see it. If my CCS is in CC, they're dead. Spending points on a power weapon or power fist is less efficient than giving them melta guns.

I'll admit -- I give my officers all power swords and laspistols purely for fluff reasons. To be honest, on the Platoon Commanders, this has accomplished exactly two things in all the games I've brought them: jack and squat.

The Company Commander has proved surprisingly non-horrible in close combat. I'm thinking I should upgrade to a power fist, though.

Krieg! What a hole...

Trolling around giving my Commissar General a plasma pistol instead of his CCW and keeping his bolt pistol.

My Officers will most likely have a power sword, because shinny.

Yep, that's my philosophy. For the most part, I model all my commanders with power swords/weapons to make them stand out and to fit the fluff of my army. Usually, they just count as normal CCW's (and I have never met someone who has argued with me over it). Sometimes I get interested and make them actually count as power weapons. And yeah, they don't work out too well.

I do give my CC a powerfist though, again for fluff reasons but it actually is a power-fist rules and points wise. Don't know why, I have never really had to use it. The one time I did though, he slapped an ork warboss to death. Don't know how he survived to tell the tale, but he did hahaha.
