Horrific Horror

I have wanted to do a fully converted daemon army since I started playing competitively (two years ago). The release of the new Chaos Space Marine book enticed me after 11 months of success with Tyranids. When this army is done, I would like every single model to either have a conversion or be fully kitbashed. Ideally I will have 1850 points completed by Adepticon, but this project could very well last forever adding units. The army will feature all four Chaos gods, but currently has a focus on Nurgle and Tzeentch.

My first two models are the two HQ units in the army, Typhus and the Masque.

My goal with Typhus is to make him imposing, not a character who kicks ass in assault, but rather a model that is so commanding and powerful that you fear the idea of getting into assault with him. I knew I needed him raised up in order to create that sort or presence. I chose to do this with a rock rather than bark or foam as this would weigh his base down, preventing him from falling like other top heavy models. His legs and powerfist are from the CSM Terminator box, and his torso, head and shoulder pads are from the Forgeworld Death Guard Terminator kit (I believe; I got these bits as part of a bigger trade). His other army is a cut up combi-bolter arm. The wires come from a CSM Terminator power mace, and the handle above the hand is from a terminator power axe. The scythe head is from the empire wizard box. I need to do a bit more work on the greenstuff, adding more vines to cover the joint. The arms under him and behind the cloak are from the fantasy ghouls box. I believe the tabardesque chains are from the CSM Terminator kit. I will need to hunt down my flagellent chains so as to connect his cape to the front tabard.

The Masque on the other hand needs to look bitter, constantly in motion and in such emotional duress that she will rip anyone's face off. The hard part he was the legs. Not only were daemonette legs not dynamic enough, but no one in my area had any to spare. I tried wych legs, but they were too human. I settled on kroot legs, not only were they depicting motion, but the height they created clearly made her a herald. I did need to significantly slim the butt and hips of the kroot. The cape and back are from the dark elf corsair kit, and the head and torso are from the Dark Eldar wych set. I chose the DE pieces because they showed clearly defined femininity without being overly revealing. Her 'rending claw' is from the ghoul box, and the whip is from the Kabalite Warrior box. The horns on her head are either from a Tyranid Monstrous creature or a Dark Eldar vehicle sprue (I believe it is the latter). The shoulder pad made out of several dark eldar vehicle crew model scraps. Green stuff not only covers her lady parts, but also the kroot modifications and gives her model a greater appearance of movement.

More to come! I already have one heldrake almost done as well as a flamer squad!
