Throwing out a query as to how to approach this. What's the best way to strip them? I usually use isopropanol which is never a problem with metals or polystyrene plastic and makes the paint fall off fast, but the durability of heroclix paints and the soft plastic might react differently? Then there's the softness issue, how to prevent the new paint flaking off at the slightest bend, what primer is best to undercoat with? Again, I usually go for Halfords with normal models.

My plan is to get some urban bases from Microarts or similar and rebase the heroclix. I've no real interest in playing heroclix but do have quite a lot of figures. Anyone else done something similar?

Go to HCRealms and visit the artisian guild forums. There is a sticky on how to strip the nasty paint they use off of the figures.

Alrite, this may sound dodgy but about a year ago i was getting into secrets fo the third reich and wanted a nazi captain america. i found the best way to strip them is using pure acetone. the plastic dosent seem to melt if you are quick rather it goes hard and a bit brittle, the details once stripped arent great but certainly alot better than with paint, also it seemed near impossible to get all the paint off, another option i often use with my marines is just leave the model in pure brown dettol for a couple of days its taken car paint of my chaps so it should work with heroclix. but for the acetone method:

1) get toothbrush, pure acetone and water

2) Dunk the model in acetone, scrub with toothbrush for a few moment only, then wash the model

3) repeat step 2 until the paint eventually comes off

Hi, sorry to leave it a while before returning, but thanks for the responses. The HCRealms forums are useful too, the 'artisan' section is a bit hidden so thanks for pointing that one out.
