Hey everyone,

I haven't been painting in a long time (I used to paint lord of the rings minis mostly with a few 40k models aswell). But I just got into 40k 6ed and decided to get the Dark Vengeance Boxset. As I went through the set I decided to use the marines as standard space marines and this is what I have done with the Tac Squad with the sergeant and also the Librarian. The white and blue space marines were the original colour scheme I was going to go with thats why there is only 4.

Do you think its pretty good for not painting in a few years? Any suggestions as I have another tac squad to paint.

P.s don't worry im open to criticism I can take it :p

I like the colour scheme, they look like old school Blood Angels. I'd suggest a few highlights on the armour edges, unless you have the same problem I have, which is basically not being able to use a camera, and the highlights don't show.
Maybe a touch up on the eyes too, a lighter shade painted over parts of the lens, with a tiny white dot in the corner.
I like the bases too, they look very natural.

White paint job is interesting, not bad, just makes them look a little like cupcakes. Mmm ... marine cupcakes ....

Great work on the BA though. The librarian is excellent.

Your work is a little flat. The creases, joints, and places where red armor meets more red armor lack depth. I posted suggestions in another thread where that poster had a similar problem. Take a look and see if this will work for you.

Looks good. I like the colour scheme you chose, for some reason I never even considered that the Dark Angel models could be used as Blood Angels without much trouble.

As for suggestions on improvements.

1) The red looks like it needs another coat followed by a highlight.

2) I think the white needs a shade. Maybe something like a blue-grey (like Fenris Grey) watered down to a wash like consistency and paint it directly in to the crevices (not over the entire model) then if you want you could go over with white again and to clean up the transition between the grey shade and the white.

3) I do feel like the red marines could use another colour. I'm not brilliant with colour theory and selection, but just looking at them I feel the could do with maybe yellowish green or pure yellow eyes.

Well the white and blue ones were a mistake....I was really frustrated and just painted 4 of them then was pretty unhappy with how they turned out and I just couldn't put my finger on why I didn't like it but the cupcake analogy makes perfect sense :p

On the highlighting issue I have never been good at highlights so I didn't do any highlights but will attempt it I will look up how to do it effectively.

For the creases and all that I do need to apply a little bit more of agrax earthshade, I think I only attempted it on the Sergeant and librarian just to test it out but I will have to add some more and try it on the other models.

Also I was thinking about another coat of red but I feel that another coat will make everything to dark but I do see some spots that need a little more paint so maybe just some touching up in areas where some white is still showing (I used white primer).

The eyes idea of having a yellowish green or all yellow eye would be a great idea I felt that the black was not a good colour to choose.

Also I know I didnt paint the librarian blue like they should...but I had no dark blue so red is good enough it matches the rest of them :p

Oh and on a side note I haven't painted in maybe 4 years and am using the worlds worst brushes so when I pick up some new brushes it will really clean up the lines and some of the finer details,
