Fellow war gamers! I am in the progress of designing my own full table top war game with zombies!
The rules are free to download, all that I ask for in return is feedback to help me improve the game for everyone!
The game is far from a refined product and is still a work in progress. I will be filming battle reports and game demos as soon as my miniatures arrive!
Again, I appreciate any ideas or feedback anyone wants to contribute.

Its one of the nicest rules sets iv found of the genre :O Only criticism i can make is a little overboard with the faction special rules. Things like the zombies having "bullet sponges" could just be put into their stats without the rule, too many special rules leads to more gak to search through when your looking for the one you need (just my two pence)

Thanks for the feedback! I will take a look and see what I can eliminate, you are right to much fluff makes it more complicated. I might even make the units cost less and add the specials in as optional upgrades since i need more upgrade options anyways.
I'm adding in the 5th army list soon as the artwork is done. Still waiting on my miniatures from BTP, they were delayed due to one of the miniature companies sending them the miniatures. I need more feedback on unit choices for some of the army lists, if anyone has any input I am all ears! thanks!

Not a problem, its nice seeing dedicated horror rule sets like this finally arising rather than stagnating.
No idea what you mean by this next faction, but im curious if you intend to add in other monster movie icons, werewolves, vampires etc?

didn't think about werewolves or vampires, that is a really good idea. The only reason the 5th army hasn't been released yet is due to me not having enough good unit ideas. I'm also working on the fantasy version as well, trying to keep the rule set the same for ease of use while playing. The artist is going to be starting on the fantasy artwork next and I'll start adding in rule sections as i finish them. Now that I think about your idea, I will add in a army list for werewolves and vampires for the fantasy rules , I will try to work them into the modern rule set too if i can. The 5th army list for the modern rule set if called "Bio Monsters" (until someone comes up with something better)! They feature mutated stuff, much like the monsters from the old resident evil games (1&2) and are heavy hitters mostly on 40mm bases.

Looks like a nice game! I like the system being built around D8, mainly because I'm burned out of rolling D6s from a childhood of boardgames.
In terms of feedback I noticed a few things (in the current v1.4), mostly cosmetic.
1. The Medic! and Brains ability are listed both under the Standard Actions and Special Abilities. To me it seems like the duplication isn't really necessary, and I'd try to keep it all under Special Abilities. Saves having confusion or possible copy-paste errors. Maybe put a generic option under Standard Actions like:
"Use Special Ability: Use the Medic! or Brains! special ability (details below)"
2. Some additional formatting would be nice. I like the "Halloween" style font for the main headers, and the different colors for subheaders, but once you get into the meat of the rules it quickly becomes a big block of text. Maybe differentiate examples in a little box on the right, and put in some bold/italics and spacing around the core rules. Right now a section like Ammo/Jammed has a lot going on, but it's just given to the reader all at once. It explains the basic rule, then has a bunch of special cases, then an extra rule for ammo, then more special cases. I think splitting that up would help.
3. I know some people might easily understand the firearm names, but when you just see a chart with MP5, M870, AR15, M203 in it as names a non-gun nut might get confused. The art and description following the chart helps (and looks really good!). Maybe even adding a "Type" column with Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun, etc. so the reader at least knows "Oh this is a machine gun, okay!"
Or even integrating it in the name, like MP5 Submachinegun or M9 Pistol. This might help in the army lists as well.
4. Unrelated the rules document itself, but are you going to make a campaign system at all? I always find people love some kind of "post battle sequence" ala Mordheim in their skirmish games.
Anyway how do you find the game to play? Seems like it would go pretty quickly and enemies would start dropping right away. I might have to give it a go sometime since I have some simple plastic zombies I could pit against various sci-fi-esque figures.

Thanks for all the feedback! This will be most helpful, I will be integrating a lot of your feedback into version 1.5.
Besides the campaigne systems I'd also really like to release a full pen and paper version (like d20 system) for both the modern and fantasy versions.
I find the game goes very quickly despite using single units instead of squads like many other war games. You'd be surprised how fast a horde can over run you especially depending on the mission you are playing (the redoubt is merciless)!
Sorry it took me so long to reply, my father has been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, I had to take emergency leave and have been spending as much time with him as I can. I have been compiling new artwork and adding in the fantasy armies though version 1.5 will not be out for a bit still.
happy wargaming!

Glad to hear it was helpful. I'm always interested to see what games are being designed. I look forward to seeing v1.5.
So you're planning on an RPG version too? Would it just be in the same world or would you try to share mechanics?
Condolences about the brain cancer...not much else I can say, just sounds really really tough.

From your feedback Bosky: I've added the gun types to the weapons chart, started reformatting a bit, though until i get my miniatures in I won't be able to add in picture examples (planning on it though)! I have also removed the redundant special abilities from the Action phase and instead used them as examples. Version 1.5 is coming along nicely, just waiting on some additional artwork.
Trying to make the game mechanics as universal for all the different rule sets as possible. The fantasy version is using the exact same, I'd like to make the rpg rules as close as possible. Character creation will be a point buy system (special abilities, stats, and starting equipment). Not sure If i will keep it strictly D8 system though.
Here is a video of a chopper I had commissioned and will be using in the rulebook, game demo's, and battle reports. (BTP is also doing a large order of coalition and zombie forces for me).

Yeah, we are making the best of the situation. My dad is doing ok with all the treatments. Thanks for the kind words, i appreciate it!
