Evening ladies and gents.

Since i've got two weeks before this begins i thought i'd show all the planning on here, and separate this log out since unlike more normal projects i actually have a time scale on this one. The first 3 months of the project are set in stone, as i'm part of a tale of gamers being held at my local club. As a result i've got a few things to sort out as this evolves.

The Budget; £280 (models priced at GW prices, even if your using Fw versions of existing models or purchase armies at discount)
The Time scale; 7 months.

Month One; Tau Starter Set
Month Two; Tau battlesuit commander
Month Three; Hammerhead

The scheme;

In honesty it wasn't hard to decide this, i want to go straight forwards with this as a standard tau force. I wanted a fairly codex cover/artwork scheme, main examples;

The interior is an attempt to paint using only an airbrush, oil paints and a sponge. The exception being the seat and detailing which will be done during the next phase; note the oil paint is still drying (and probably will be all night).

C&C welcomed,

-Skrall

Great work so far, the 'fish looks really worn down
But maybe you should clean up the biggest "splotches" of brown in the walls/ceiling? Kinda looks like the troops have been smearing dirt everywhere... Which hardly seems fitting with the Tau mentality (IMHO)

Tau sucks at Close Quarter? Meet the Fish Of Fury!

In the first photo the oils are still wet, so it's hard to judge. The next set of photo's should allow you to get a sense of how it actually looks. That being said, it's a personal taste thing, i quite like the washy patches of dirt, but i have a reason for my design; I'm using it to represent a series of different cultural psychologies. Allow me to explain.

The fire caste is, undoubtedly, pragmatic. They are more likely to be concerned with how a tank functions as a transport than how clean and neat the interior is. I wanted a way, on the interior, to show this functional mind set without leaving it a bland affair. The best way, to my mind, was to show paint damage and accumulated dirt. It's also a way of showing an aged interior without resorting to metallics and powdering.

The clean exterior paint scheme is the way i'm using to show the earth caste's desire for perfection (even aesthetics) for all that they build. Similarly, to represent that the fire warrior would allow no external appearance that the battles they have fought could leave any lasting blemish on the tools of the greater good. The interior is, as pointed out above, an exercise in pragmatism. The seat i want to be padded, but padded in a way that says function over comfort. I want it to be a thin strip of padding designed to keep specific pressures off the tau armour when they sit down, rather than making them comfortable. It's why i've done everything i can to make it look very flat and basic.

C&C weclomed,
