So this is one of the 2 weird "upgrades" a Termagant can take. The other is the spike rifles which is a 1 point "downgrade" 6 more inches but only S3 ap -, I see no use at all in it, but the Strangle web might be different. It has the one redeeming feature of being a Template weapon, but it is S2 and "wounds" against strength. I am wondering if the 6e overwatch rules could make it worth taking in large broods as you can take up to 3.

Probably not, just wondering if I missed an angle.

6" can be useful

termagants that form part of an army blob really benefit from that.

True, but if you want the extra 6 inches the devourer is so much better. The new FAQ might make it some what more useful to home objective holders.

Strangleweb is just not good. Against most things, wounding against strength is no different from toughness. And being S2 means it hurts MEQ on 6, and GEQ on 5 but the regular Fleshborer has better range, is cheaper, wounds MEQ on 4, and GEQ on 3. The extra points are better spent on more Termagants.

In my mind, Spike Rifles are about as good as Fleshborers, so if I could take Spike Rifles for free then I would consider it. But since spike rifles are 1 point, they are 1 point too expensive.

In general the best use of Termagants is bone-stock, or with devourers. I have had some luck making a blob them that are upgraded with TS/AG and sticking a Prime in the middle. It makes a nice mobile option that isn't tied to a Tervigon for support but it isn't a must have option.

Pretty much my thoughts, I was just curious if any one had played with the template.

Free swap to the Spike rifle would make a viable option.Paying for it just kills it though.

Cruddace made about half of the Tyranid upgrades useless, and Stranglewebs are no different. They're waaaaay to weak to cause any sort of damage.

It is also more points you could just use on another gaunt. :-s

yup, flat out useless. Spike rifles would be better if you could mix them into a unit (5 spike rifles, 10 fleshborers). so that the 12" range is mitigated by some in the back with 18" range. However, they should be free or AP4. Some reason to take them over fleshborers. Strangleweb.... never. BS3 blasts at close range on hordes is just a bad idea.

Template not blast, but yeah.

And flat made some units just a waste of ink in the codex. We have one Pyrovore model at the FLGS that has been on the shelf since the codex dropped.

I once killed a Sister of Battle with a strangleweb. Pinned the unit, as well - kind of a wtf moment, really.

I modelled a trio of Strangleweb Termagants up when the new codex was released, and have occasionally run them inside a huge blob of Termagants. Occasionally, they'll find themselves in an ideal situation and open fire on a cluster of light infantry and score a good number of kills. Occasionally. Very occasionally.

The vast majority of the time I've run them, they've failed to do anything other than be removed as a casualty along with the rest of their brood.

The sad truth is that while a group of templates is in theory an excellent anti-horde plan, attaching said templates to Termagant bodies (and increasing the cost of said Termagant by 200% to boot) is just a bad idea. I would rather take four more Termagants and soak up four more wounds.
