After reading "Know no Fear" and being very underwhelmed, I approached "Fear to tread" with a degree of trepidation. As on one side I'm not a fan of the Blood Angels (well at least their stupid codex which makes them far too powerful, DS Landraiders amongst other atrocious elements?). However I haven't yet missed a HH book, (and yes that included the atrocious Abyss book, and the dire Dark Angels stuff) and this wouldn't be an exception.
I really, genuinely, enjoyed it, and the key seems to be preconceptions. Every book I have read and really enjoyed has been a Legion I haven't really had time for, like the LEGION book or 1k sons books. The BA story is excellent, very pacy and very dynamic, it has quite a few intertwined threads and is actually well conceived and answers some of the long term issues...
Still when I look at this Picture I still wonder whether the Blood Angel is Captain Tagas trapped in stasis, or Meros (Red Angel - Not to be confused with Angron).
Or is it something else entirely? Lexicanum says it is Meros, but as I've been in the hobby since 93 I've never heard about the "Red Angel" in the battle for Terra?

it is the red angel, the visions of heresy book has close ups of all the guys in the picture with labels saying who they are. Loved that they explained who it was in fear to tread because for years i was wondering "who dat?"
Me too, I saw that picture a few years ago and thought "Nah they got that wrong why would a Blood Angel be there?".
Now it begs the question, what the hell happened to the "Red Angel"?

My take, Horus feared having a rival as well as dissent within his rebellion.

He's the one that stabs Sanguinous in the back and unleashes the Black Rage on the Blood Angels. That's why it is a sword wound in the picture. Not one caused by a mace or claws. And why it is in the back. Sanguinous would be less likely to defend his rear against Meros. Since he did not fight the Angel on Signus Prime.

Hmm....Good call Stone Rhino, that does seem to fit.
I have an alternative theory developing, as I am reading "Angel Exterminatus" involving the other Maze that Peturabo made...
But by the end of that book it might well be revealed....
Equally we can go the cheap fluff route and say "The Alpha Legion sorted out the Red Angel issue, by making him disappear......"
Angel Exterminatus already has impressed me, as an Iron Hands fan boy, I am impressed.

although the red angel did threaten to fight angron for the title if i remember correctly
