So I posted this on the Privateer Press forums and I want to see if you guys have anything different to say.

The first draft list went something like this:
15 Pt List
Kaelyssa, Night's Whisper
Phoenix
Mage Hunter Commander
Mage Hunter Strikeforce (Leader and 5)
Ghost Sniper
Eiryss, Angel of Retribution

25 Pt List
Kaelyssa, Night's Whisper
Phoenix
Mage Hunter Strikeforce (Leader and 5)
Mage Hunter Commander
Eiryss, Angel of Retribution
Ghost Sniper
Arcanist
Stormfall Archers (4)
2x Mage Hunter Assassins

35 Pt List
Kaelyssa, Night's Whisper
Hydra
Phoenix
Mage Hunter Strikeforce (Leader and 5)
Mage Hunter Commander
Eiryss, Angel of Retribution
2x Arcanist
Stormfall Archers (4)
2x Mage Hunter Assasin
Ghost Sniper

but after some discussion they said it would be better to max the squads out. so it became this:
15 Points:
Kaelyssa, Night's Whisper
Phoenix
Mage Hunter Strikeforce (Leader and 5)
Mage Hunter Commander
Eiryss, Angel of Retribution
Mage Hunter Assassin

25 Points
Kaelyssa, Night's Whisper
Phoenix
Mage Hunter Strikeforce (Leader and 9)
Mage Hunter Commander
Eiryss, Angel of Retribution
Mage Hunter Assassin
Arcanist
Dawnguard Sentinels (Leader and 5)

35 Points
Kaelyssa, Night's Whisper
Phoenix
Mage Hunter Strikeforce (Leader and 9)
Mage Hunter Commander
Eiryss, Angel of Retribution
Mage Hunter Assassin
Arcanist
Dawnguard Sentinels (Leader and 5)
Dawnguard Sentinel Officer and Standard Bearer
Stormfall Archers (4)
Mage Hunter Assassin
Arcanist

so which do you like more... should I change anything... what you guys think

How is the Journeyman league set up? Where are you starting, where do you end up, and how long in between jumps? Do you have to stick with what you have between jumps? Do you have to start with the Battlebox?

I do agree that max units are much better, especially with Ret, since their units are pretty darn good.

we start at 15 and end eventually at 35. right now we are 15 for a couple of weeks and you have two army lists to play with. And you can start with any 15 pointer

Do you have to keep everything from your 15 point list in your 25 points list and then everything in your 35point list?

My personal Kaelyssa 15point list goes like:

Kaelyssa
Hydra
eEiryss
MHSF, full
MH Commander

I like full units with Ret, and I like they Hydra because it keeps its focus from turn to turn.

In your lists, I don't like the ghost sniper, I would rather have the mage hunter assassin, they do have the ability to take out/cripple lights with a decent roll. They do work best in pairs, so going form 15-25 I would max out your mage hunters and add the 2nd assassin. Sentinels are not good at all with just a minimum size, they are just too easy to kill and turn into a waste of points.

So for your lists I personally would go:

15 points:
Kaelyssa
Pheonix
MHSF (min)
Commander
eEiryss
MH Assassin

25 points:
Add Griffon (great light jack)
Put MHSF to max
Add MH Assassin
Add Arcanist

35 points:
Add Stormfall Archers x2

or

Stormfall Archers
Battle Mages (great for scenario play with their push/pull, but that is again, my personal preference)

If you really want to play Sentinels, get them to max, and get the officer and standard, but thats 11 points, you could do it but it would mean taking out the arcanist, and doing it at the 35 points level, and taking points to 24 instead of 35 (which is legal to do)

So I like the 15 pointer - so I will keep that. The problem is my models that I have... and I really cannot buy more for a while. That why I am including a hydra and Ghost Sniper. So Here are some modified lists of the 25 and 35 you gave me with some explanations to each - tell me what you think

25 Points
Kaelyssa, Night's Whisper
Phoenix
Mage Hunter Strikeforce (Leader and 9)
Mage Hunter Commander
Eiryss, Angel of Retribution
2x Mage Hunter Assassin
Arcanist
2x Ghost Sniper

So instead of adding Griffon, I added 2 Ghost snipers. The reasoning behind this is that great suppression they can do with the 4+ def they get behind cover (camo + the cover) and the 6 points of CHOSEN damage when they shoot. So most often then not I can knock out an entire strip of Warjack. That is scary amounts of damage since there RAT is so high. Plus they can kill shield walls and dug-ins

35 Points
Kaelyssa, Night's Whisper
Hydra
Phoenix
Mage Hunter Strikeforce (Leader and 9)
Mage Hunter Commander
Eiryss, Angel of Retribution
2x Mage Hunter Assassin
Arcanist
Stormfall Archers (4)

So for this one I took out the Ghost Snipers and went more for a Tanky approach. This one I added a Hydra so that it can command the field and still retain those Focus Charges which is great. Plus that Cannon is a bitch. The Ghost Snipers though got replaces with a unit of Stormfall archers.... for obvious Reasons.

The models I own are this... thats why I am building the list like this.
1x Kaelyssa, Night's Whisper
1x Hydra
1x Phoenix
1x Mage Hunter Strikeforce (Min) (Easy to buy one more box to increase to 25 points )
1x Mage Hunter Commander
1x Eiryss, Angel of Retribution
1x Eiryss, Mage Hunter of Ios
2x Mage Hunter Assassin
2x Ghost Hunter
1x Arcanist
1x Stormfall Archers (4)

The snipers would work better in pairs, I think that can be one of the quirks with Ret, their units being full and things working in pairs are much better than min or one of. You also have to remember that concealment and cover are two different things. So if you are in a cloud, being a terrain piece that grants concealment (like a hedge), or a forest, you get concealment, and get the +2 Def +2 camo. Cover, like a stone wall, or building gives a +4 Def bonus, so that the ghost sniper can get a +6 Def. Just make sure you go over what terrain piece grants before playing (saves on arguments during the battle).

35 Points
Kaelyssa, Night's Whisper
Hydra
Phoenix
Mage Hunter Strikeforce (Leader and 9)

Remember to give the Hydra Phantom Hunter, so he doesn't need LOS, and before the shot happens, the Hydra gets +1 RNG and +1 POW for each focus on it, so allocating 3 focus to it, gives it a 15" range at 15 Pow. Also remember that enemy melee or ranged hits give it an addional focus, but if its focus is at 3 or more, you cannot allocate more focus to it.

The Mage Hunter Strikeforce box is a unit box, and should have had 10 Mage Hunters in the box, which is their max size. PP is starting to turn out full unit boxes, so you do not have to buy the min box, then blisters. All of the Retribution unit boxes are full boxes.

Whoops. Ordered them from my LFGS so I didn't know how many came with it - thats reallllly cool that they come with a full unit. Unlike other gaming industries....

I am glad you like the list - and I love the tactics... forgot about ghost hunter on the hydra - BUT EVEN MORE SURPRISING is I forgot that a wall gives 4+ def.... for a total of 6+ def... that would have helped me out on my last game a LOT

For the 35 point list I have one more question:

Should I keep the Stormfall archers (which I like due to blast range weapons making infantry scared!) - or should I add my 2x Ghost Snipers and add to that an Arcanist to make it 5pts in total?

Archers are awesome, another good target for phantom hunter to get at things you cannot see. Knock things down, move up and use the boosted damage arrow on them. Snipe to get closer. Scatter to deal with some stealthed units. I also like throwing fire on things, like a low arm caster (although thats not the most useful shot, and situational)
