Here you can find all three parts of my let´s craft tutorial how to build a modular gaming table with rivers!

Part 1:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LWZVKiMUsg
In the first part three hard foam slides (4 cm thick) will be prepared for further steps. The rivers will be marked on the hard foam slides.
The hard foam slides can be bought in your local do-it-yourself-store. Unfortunately these hard foam slides are with slots on each edge of the slide. These slots have to be cut of on two sides of the slides in order that all modular gaming segments fit properly in all combinations. If you are able to buy hard foam slides without any slots, you can skip these step.
Afterwards each hard foam slides will be divided into two square parts in order to get 6 equal squares similar to the modular gaming table from Games Workshop.
The rivers will be cut of directly out of the hard foam with a hot wire. Please do this outside, because of the toxic fumes from the hard foam!

Part 2:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-oSE4_gRuI
In this part all modular gaming segments are painted with brown dispersion paint two times. A third layer will be painted with structure paint.
After this all rivers are primed with blue dispersion color and after that sealed with gloss varnish.

Part 3:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ox6HibyV7qI
In this final part I will show how to decorate the gaming board with static gras. Therefore the gaming board segments will be painted with glue everywhere where you want to apply the static grass. The exceeding grass will be knocked of the gaming board afterwards to save grass!
At the end of this tutorial I have set up some scenery and some Empire units fighting against some marauding Orcs and Goblins!

Thanks for watching the Let´s Craft tutorial and for your feedback!

B&Q do some polyiso foam, it isn't very healthy though (fumes when you cut it, cannot heat-cut it, fibreglass dust). If you do use it it will need sealed with some emulsion paint before anything else. I think Wickes do the XPS foam though, which is the one recommended by all the online tutorials.
Did one myself recently, waiting on some epoxy resin to add a solid water effect to the river.
