A few questions and a short note
Quickly before i start, i'm not new to Tyranids. I know how to play and win games. Rarely happens but i know how
So, i've looked at some nids lists recently and i've seen a sudden increase in people taking Biovores... Is there a reason for this? Has 6th Ed made them brilliant?

Biovores are far more useful than they used to be. They make good IC snipers that can avoid the cover from those pesky ADL gun line lists, Add to the fact that many armies have are running fewer vehicles and more infantry and those pie plates become far more effective in 6th edition thanks to the HP weakness vehicles now have.

So if I take a unit of 3, that'd be enough right?

Entirely depends what your are facing, if find your self facing a lot of foot armies, maybe go for 2 units. Even if it is 2 units of 2, this at least gives you the option of targeting two units.

Well as just an all round competitive army.
My list is usually a Flyrant, 2 trygons and 2 tervigons and 20 termagant a in squads of 10 and 2 units of 7 ymgarls!
I'd imagine that my biovores would provide a wee bit of fire support ^^

I personally find that 1 unit is enough. My lists are actually quite close to yours, but 1 unit of 2 or 3 is usually enough. I think that more can risk overcommitting points for when you see Mechspam or flier spam.

Biovores are amazing for dealing with anything other than Marines. Guard blobs will take a beating, and tau players will cry when you devastate fire warriors left and right. One brood of three has always done fine for me for pinning those low Ld units behind an ADL.

Actually, Biovores are still pretty decent against marines. Not devestating, but it's useful to hit Long Fangs/Havocs/Devestators, as almost every army includes them now. Again, also great for picking off sarges and melta guns.

And so it was decided....
My list will now include 3 biovores!!!
But what about synapse? Will that be a problem?

You might want to think about how many separate units you have, too. If you have a single unit of 3, then you're firing using the multiple barages rules, detailed on page 34. If you're trying to snipe enemy characters, three spearate units of one biovore each is probably more effective than one unit of three models.

Synapse doesn't tend to be a problem, just advance them up behind your tervigons since they have assault weapons so can shoot on the move.

I'd like to, but I only have 1 heavy support slot....
And the only other -vore I can take are......... Pyrovores and they won't be taken unless rumours hold steady and they become FLAKvores!!!

I wouldn't get it, however when I invest in my real Nids, instead of just digital ones (see sig for explanation) I'll be buying pyrovore models to use as Biovores, because those Biovore models are ugly as....

I got tired of facing nothing but ADL gunlines at my store, so I've started taking two squads of three Biovores, and they've been working wonders. As for synapse, I usually advance them just behind the bulk of my army, as there's no penalty to being being close to the enemy. With Two tervigons and three flyrants tearing through their lines, they're not likely to put much firepower into the bios.

3 Flyrants?
Usually, i leave behind a tervigon to look after home objective, so i could always just leave the biovores with him

Just used my list in a 2250 tourney with a double force org. Three is just too much for a balanced list to handle, and I ended up taking second in the tourney. I had no losses, but the other guy had more total KPs. The biovores destroyed a Dark Eldar player I faced, though.

Biovores are nice for that turn one shooting which is oftne lacking in nid' armies. If you miss you still get the annoying spore mines, if you hit you get to barrage snipe.
