Who has the edge
Dlord and Typhus just hate life too much and annihilate!
Too close too call almost a draw one way or the other.
New DA's are just amazing and salvo the haters of life off the board.

Here is a game that I played over the weekend vs the new DA codex. My opponenet played a Azrael DW and RW combo. We thought the game was pretty entertaining and wanted to share. This is my first real bat rep attempt so please bear with any mistakes or just bad editing.

Review: I like this list a lot, it is super shooty, very mobile, and has a lot of survivability. The model count is low but very powerful. I'm sure it has some issues but hey this is our first test of the new Dex so back off.....jk.

Review: My list is something I have been playing a lot lately and plan to bring to an upcoming GT. In my playtesting it has been competitive vs most armies including the crazy and scary new Bug lists that seem so powerful lately. In fact it can really sneak up on those boys and pulls some good wins. There is a lot of confusion on what to focus on and I find that when my opponent goes after anything then what he ignores ends up really hurting. So if you leave the Barges alone for exapmle they will tear you up by the end of the game. If you go after wraiths the zombies and their buddy Typhus hit at full strength and it can huuurt. It is kind of an all comers list and I would like to know what anyones thoughts are on it. As a side note, even though I am not huge in to this kind of thing the fluff for my army does kind of work. Typhus would easily join a DLord and the Lord in turn probably wouldn't mind Typhus coming on board since all of his followers are already dead!

Side note: Vassal doesn't have the new Chaos models up so I used Proxies for the Mauler and Drake - if you can't figure out which is which you don't deserve to play this game or vote.

Warlord Traits
DA - Brilliant Planning
Necrons - Night Fight

Psychic Powers
Librarian - Misfortune - ouch for me.....
Typhus - Plague Wind, Weapon Virus

We played a NOVA primer mission with 5 objectives which was the primary, Table Quarters as secondary, Slay the warlord and Linebreaker as Tertiary. Mysterious Objectives (which we forgot) and Night Fight (which did not roll up) were in effect. Just a note that the middle objective did not show up on the snapshots but it was there. I won the roll to see who goes first and took the first turn.

Deployment

Spoiler:

I placed my entire army across the board with Zombies spread out as they should be shambling about. The Mauler is behind a LOS blocking hill and my wraith lord unit is trying as best it can to hide in the middle. I am trying to spread the most mobile units across the board to be able to hit where I want since I can't see his deployment yet.

He corners up and places his large tac squad with Librarian in the ruins with both Dev squads behind them. LR is out front and contains Azrael and banner friends. The two bike units are combat squadded with no meltas in the initial deployment.

Turn One Cron/Chaos

Spoiler:
My opponent does not sieze and we begin.

I basically move forward and the only shooting is from my AB's which do absolutely nothing. Rolling was poor and his saves were on point, they also moverd over 6" and were snap firing. I need to get one of the very few ways I have of killing a LR moving that way so the DL and Mauler head in that direction. It means I am going in to the heart of the LR Salvo beast but I have little choice.

Turn One DA

Spoiler:

He is a too far out for misfortune this turn but unloads the bikes, LR, and Tac sqaud at my left unit of Wraiths wracking up 5 wounds. Not everything could shoot because he was a little blocked by the hill and had limited movement because he wanted the banner to stay within 6' of the tac squad. The two las units fire at my left AB and only take off one HP with a glance (saved the rest).

Turn Two Cron/Chaos

Spoiler:

I continue trying to get to his Angels before they mop me up. I move the right zombies and immortals in between the right objectives to force him to at least pay attention to that side of the board and go after some pretty cheap units. I focus everything on his Tac squad again but by rolling no sixes and him saving I only kill one marine from direct fire. A couple arcs kill two from his right Dev Squad and they hold. *New FAQ note - we haven't looked for the YMDC ruling yet but both thos units would be out of range from the original 24" that a Tesla Destructor could shoot and therefore should not be able to hit the units behind...we rationalized that the arcs are essentially a new shot that has a 6" range from the Tac squad and could therefore hit the Dev squads.
All in all this is another disappointing turn for my Crons and I have to think that Typhus is wondering why he joined the crazed Destroyer lord. I close my eyes because I have a feeling the next turn will hurt!

DA Turn 2

Spoiler:

He rolls reserves and gets pretty much what he wants. His termies drop in my backfield and one unit of bikes do the same with outflank to hit the Immortals and Zombies down there. They shoot and nearly wipe the entire Immortals squad - none of which would get back up. The Librarian casts Misfortune on my big unit of Wraiths and the Angels bring the pain nearly wiping both units. He is sly and once all wraiths are down in front of my DLord he uses the Devs to bypass the 2+ save. The left unit of wraiths is down to 3 wounds. Luck does shine a bit my way when my DLord gets back up!

Well that was painful and things are looking grim for my alliance. Lets see how T3 goes but it could be pretty bad.

Cron/Chaos Turn 3

Spoiler:

This pic is after movement and shooting. I took the risk of the DLord being able to take down the LR on his own and had the Mauler head toward the Termies rather than doubling up on them. Typhus cast plague wind on the termies and kills one while a Tesla arc knocks down another. The Heldrak comes in and vector strikes a bike from the rear unit then kills three in the tac squad including the libby (love the new FAQ)!! The barges finally get hot and kill one Dev from the right squad, two from the left squad, a bike and a termie - those where all from arcs btw and still only one in the Tac squad! The right Dev squad does break but doesn't run off the board. The center Immortals do nothing and the left Immortals kill two bikes. On the right flank I back away from the termies figuring he will have to use the bikes to come after this unit. The bike squad in front breaks and flees towards the ruins.

Assault sees the wraiths charge his two bikes. We both kill one and he hits and runs. The DLord assaults the LR and explodes it killing two marines inside. The Maler goes after the Termies and kills two with no damage in return.

Well That went a lot better and I think we are back in the game. We had to call it for the night but are going to finish tonight so we shall see how it goes from here.....any predictions?

DA Turn 3

Spoiler:

My opponent moves some bikes around and shuffles his lower right termies up in the ruins. Shooting is not too powerful but one lone bike kills the wraith on the hill and the other three kill a zombie and an immortal. Azrael goes after the helldrake but I save. His lascannon squad hits my DLord and he is down for good. His Tac squad comes in from reserve to threaten the upper right objective and between them, the termies, and three lower bikes they kill 10 zombies. He did spolit fire the termies and shoots a Plas Cannon at my lone immortal on the hill. he goes to ground and survives with a 6!! It matters later in the game. Not a bod turn for me but I fell lucky after getting the LR out of the game. In assault the mauler and last terminator whiff.

Cron/Chaos Turn 4

Spoiler:

In movement I begin to head the two immortals and Typhus unit toward the lower obj. The Helturkey vector strikes the two bikes and would then wipe out the two remaining LC's in the right Dev squad. The AB's take care of the last Tac marines from the Libby squad and my immortals finish off the bike. The lower AB kills one marine in Azraels unit. My lone wraith jumps over to see if he can knock down the last termie. Zombies in upper right continue their slow plod.

In assault the wraith is able to help the Mauler take out the last terminator and they consolidate up toward the obj. The upper right zombis fail their charge. typhus and company declare a charge and quickly lose three zombies needing an 11 to get in to combat...double sixes and we are in business. Unfortunately Typhus is just too far out to challenge so the zombie champ has to and is quickly killed. I really needed Typhus to challenge and kill Azrael so this squad could head north for the upper left objective.

DA Turn 4

Spoiler:

DA's do not have a ton of movement but he does swing the three bikes in the lower corner around to threaten the center objective, this was a mistake that would cost him but it looked ok at the time. He swings the other bike around to shoot the lone wraith in the ruins and shooting is pretty ineffective but he does kill more zombies in the upper right. The lone immortal again takes fire but only from the storm bolters and lives again.

In assault Typhus challenges Azrael and kills him with his force weapon taking no wounds in return. Unfortunately again the zombies can not do even a single wound and we hold after a stubborn leadership test. His bikes turbo a bit and looking back I am not sure why.

Cron/Chaos Turn 5

Spoiler:

I start to turn the AB's to hit the lower three bikes and move the immortals toward the center objective. Combined fire wipes them out. The wraith moves up to kill the last Devastator the Helldrkae VS the last two Dev's up top. The zombies move in to charge range for the upper right tac squad and I move the Mauler to handle that last bike and put this game away....

Not so fast the zombies can only kill one marine after 10 saves and the mauler whiffs on the bike who promply hits and runs.Typhus and company kill the last Command marine and only get a 1 inch consolidate move. Another problem here is that my Immortals could only barely get in range of the center objective and I could be shot off of it by the termies...easily.

DA Turn 5

Spoiler:

He moves his last bike over to the center and hides it behind the pipe system. The Termies stay put and fire on my immortals killing three and taking me out of range from the center objective. fortunately they all get back up and it is safe. Wow that was close. If it ends now we would tie on objectives and go to quarters. We roll and get another turn. In assault the zombies in the upper right stall out and both sides do nothing.

Cron/Chaos Turn 6
Spoiler:

At this point there is not much left but we keep going to see how it ends. I surround the center to kill his bike and use an AB to screen out the termies. Two AB's can't kill the last bike but the mauler finally takes him down in combat. The upper right zombies kill one marine and they fall back. It is now three objectives to one.

DA Turn 6

Spoiler:

The terminators swing out to shoot at the zombies in a prayer and the tac squad comes around. The problem is even if they kill the zombies that one little immortal is in the way to keep the objective contested so it is a no win for the DA. Either way he is unable to kill them all and the game is done. Victory to Crons and Chaos.

Final Thoughts I really like the new Codex and how the DA perfromed. They gave what I think is a pretty decent build a run for it's money. The ability to combat squad some really effective units give this army a lot of felxibility. I also love how with Azrael you end up with nearly every unit being a powerful and helpful scoring unit. His Dev squads really underperformed and it cost him long term in this game. The Banner of devastation is amazing at killing tons of troops. I know there is a debate on wether you can use the hurricane bolters with this but we played it that you could. This army is going to be fun but doesn't seem super OP so that is nice. It has tons of flexibility and can deliver it's firepower where it is most effective and needed which is great. As I said at the beginning my list has been going up against Nids a lot lately as I feel they are the top army out there at the moment and have done very well going something liek 3 of 4. I worry that DA just do not have an all comers list that can handle that army and still be competitive against a lot of other popular armies right now. Time will tell but it is very difficult to build an army and not at least plan for those damn bugs.

Hope anyone who read enjoyed the report and would love some feedback. Sorry the pictures were so small but I am technologically challenged and just getting this done was difficult enough.

Cool battle report!
That enemy army is scary o.o Lucky for you he didn't put Typhus in say a terminator squad that would have been a massive problem.

I haven't had a chance to look at the DA dex anew yet. Can command squads have more than 5 members? I thought the fact you had written it as X5 marines implied that so I thought I should ask.

No you're right the Command Squad is set at 5 models.

Thanks and glad you enjoyed the report so far.

Great report and I love both lists! The game had a very intense teeter totter effect. For a minute I though you were going to lose momentum against the DAs and I believe if his termies has landed near the approaching flank he could of turned the tide earlier. Good game!

"AM are bunch of half human-half robot monkeys who keep tech working by punching it with a wrench And their tech is so sophisticated that you could never get it wrapped it out" thing a LITTLE to seriously. It also goes "Tau tech is so awesome I wish I was Tau and not some stupid Human" thing.

Thanks and I agree. The new DA rules are that he has to pick before the game what turn the Termies come in on and probably should have brought them in turn one on the left flank. It would have caused a lot more trouble in my backfield.

If the bike was out of site in th center then the Mauler fiend can't charge. Not saying this was the case just curious as its not possible to tell on vasal. Good game, the helldrake really ruined him, I figured that would be the deciding factor, he needed to keep his other termies on an objective and use his bikes mobility to fan out and threaten late. Was he using his 4++ field save on the crusader, it works in combat, laughably enough it works for your models too.

LOS could be drawn from where the Mauler was placed just tough to show on vassal. No, we completely forgot the 4++ on the crusader and it probably would have mattered. I had three pens with the DLord but only one blew it up so there would have been a good chance the crusader would survive. If that happened it would most likely have gone to the DA.
