I'm reaching out to the Chaos players out there in need of some help and honest opinions
I recently bought 2 boxes of Raptors/Warp Talons and I sat down this weekend to build them. I looked over their rules and load outs that I could possibly build, but look very appealing and since I have 2 boxes I have a lot of options in front of me for builds. I play mostly a foot slogging army with some transports available, I played a lot of the time Thousand Sons troops squads (but have been expanding into the nurgle realm with DG and a Nurgle Lord and Sorcerer,) 2 Bezerker squads, 3 Bikes, and I have plenty of Terminators, Chosen, 2 Hell brutes, 2 Predators, Land raider. Since I can play a diverse chaos army especially with the whole host of Daemons I'm having a hard time coming to the decision of Raptors or Warp Talons. My dilemma is solidly based on either take Raptors for customability or the Warp Talons lightning claws.
Things I like about raptors:
1.) 2 special weapons - that means I can double up on flamers, meltas and plasma guns
2.) Champion can take special CCWs - Power fist, Power weapon, and lightning claws
3.) Marks and Icons - primarily looking at the Nurgle/Slaanesh ones
4.) 2 squads for more units on the board
Warp Talons:
1.) Daemons - this means that they can take my favorite mark, Mark of Tzeentch 3+/4++
2.) All with Lightning claws - this will boost my assault potential when playing my 1Ksons
3.) 2 squads or one when I get another Fast attack - looking at you hell turkey
4.) Blind ability - I'm most likely going to start them on the board but when I don't I can cause a little disruption
The problem I have is that I have NEVER had a Jump Pack unit in my Chaos army, so my knowledge in the area is fussy at best. I know, obviously for playing 40k for so long, that Jump pack units are fast and can be played quite well. As far as knowing how my army usually operates another assaulting unit(s) is going to fit well once I play them a couple of times. So with my problem of knowing what unit is going to be better at getting into those assaults is going to determine what arms I'm going to glue onto them. Since 6th ed came out I really haven't had a terrible time with over watch, it has kill the occasional model or 2 but overall my assaults have gotten there and did something.
So by looking at my current problem, what can you guys suggest on one unit or the other?

Warp Talons have no grenades making them a mediocre unit when charging into cover.

I usually use my raptors as a small unit for tank hunters, usually around 5 or so in a squad. I like the Warp Talon models, but have yet to field them, just because they aren't completely painted yet. I put MoS and IoE on my tank hunters raptors, for longer living with FNP and a boost in CC with +1I. I have never DS anything with jump packs, especially Warp Talons, with no shooting. Need to DS into cover and hope you don't mishap.

True. They could work with some grenades.

If you take warp talons you need a lord with them(nades).
But other than that I view raptors as more valuable, because you can assign them to specific tasks and they are good at what they do.
never can go wrong with a hellturkey (or two).

See that's what my bikes are currently used for, they work great with the melta guns on them and MoN. Makes them a tough tank hunting unit that can turbo boost to get in/ out of trouble. I guess having a raptor squad with meltas can add another tank hunting unit with grenades, I'm still up in the air though.
Although, a full Warp Talon squad with a Chaos Lord of Tzeentch, Lightning claws, Sigil of Corruption would be pretty fun! Good thing is that I have a extra set of the wings from the possessed box set left over.

I like raptors, but be aware the unit is strictly speaking worse than bikes.
Raptors I think are better than warp talons because of their lower cost and special weapons. They can do things like ds down, then flame some thing, or melta a tank. You can also upgrade the champ and toss in a jump lord if you want to engage in h2h. Their grenades will help there as well.
As for warp talons, they cost a lot of points, and are still just as vulnerable as raptors to most shooting. You also have to consider that they lack grenades, still cannot hurt terminators or tanks, and making use of blind requires excessively risky deep strikes and easily can result in a hugely expensive squad misshap.
