Heh, thats what they get. Tell me I cant steal dinnerware! As far as the game is concerned, MMOs are almost completely out of my gaming preference. I may give it a shot, but the game will have to do a lot to hold me for longer than the 3 months I usually give an MMO.

Meh. I don't have it in me to get excited about one of the last few decent single player franchises, even as dumbed down as it has become, being forced into an mmo.

I would argue that this cinematic is better than most for showing content. You see the three faction dynamic, you see most of the races available and a good hint at the possible classes. Though i gotta say, a breton Assassin? Hardly very fluffy. Unlike the infamous TOR ones, although the animation and visual fidelity is not representative, the scale is about right, we dont see gigantic 50,000 strong armies in the trailer.
Cool trailer all in all.

The trailer reveals bugger all that people can't either work out from the single player games (races, possible classes) or the information already released (3 faction dynamic)... It's just flashy CGI bs to hype people up even more than people already are because "NEW TES GAME OHEMGEEEE".

My point is that articles/videos on mechanics and trailers consisting of gameplay is what will make me actually want to play this game, not (admittedly pretty) CGI trailers...
The zombie demon werewolves were puzzling, they didn't really seem to behave like TES undead... More like daedra of some breed?

Hm. I see lots of argonians but not very many (if any) Khajiit in those videos. Surprised at the amount of Argonians I see actually.

2E 120 — Baroness Viana the Pure becomes ruler of Lainlyn.[1]
2E 148 — Baroness Viana the Pure dies.[1]
[edit]Third Century
2E 227 — Tjurhane Fyrre dies.
The great Ayleid (Wild Elf) sage, Tjurhane Fyrre, dies.[2]
2E 230 — The first Mages Guild is formed.
Sickened by the foolishness of his superiors in the Psijic Order, Vanus Galerion founds the new guild in Firsthold.[3]
2E 283 — Akaviri Potentate Versidue-Shaie declares martial law.
During the 37 years of martial law, all other armies in Tamriel are crushed.[4]
[edit]Fourth Century
2E 309 — The province of Elsweyr is founded.
Kiergo and Eshita, rulers of the minor kingdoms Anequina and Pellitine, marry. The kingdoms are combined to create the province of Elsweyr, sparking a great class war which almost resulted in outside intervention.[5][6]
2E 320 — Dinieras-Ves "the Iron" founded The Syffim, the forerunner of the Fighters Guild.
Since Potentate Versidue-Shaie had destroyed all armies but his own, the Syffim were intended to act as a hired army to suppress brigandage in the provinces.[4]
2E 321 — The Guild Act is approved.[4]
2E 324 — Potentate Versidue-Shaie is murdered.
The Potentate was murdered in his palace, in what is today the Elsweyr kingdom of Senchal, by the Morag Tong.[7]
2E 358 — Earliest known written record of the Dark Brotherhood
A note was found beneath the floorboards of an abandoned house in the Nordic village of Jallenheim. Depicting a war between two shadowy organizations, scholars speculate that this is a rare piece of evidence of the war between the Morag Tong and its hated offshoot, the Dark Brotherhood. The Brotherhood was probably in existence before this date, but its secrecy shrouds its true origins, though it was most likely formed by several ex-members of the Morag Tong.[8]
2E 360 — Earliest known date of a person enlisting the services of the Dark Brotherhood
This reference was found in the journals of Queen Arlimahera of Hegathe.[7]
[edit]Fifth Century
2E 412 — Earliest mention of the name of the Dark Brotherhood
This reference was found in the journals of the Blood Queen Arlimahera of Hegathe. "...with the help of the Night Mother and her Dark Brotherhood, the secret arsenal my family has employed since my grandfather's time." It can be surmised that the Dark Brotherhood was already well organized in 2E 360 if her grandfather truly used them.[7]
2E 430 — Potentate Savirien-Chorak dies.
Savirien-Chorak and all of his heirs were murdered by the Morag Tong, ending the years of the Akaviri Potentate and the Second Empire of Cyrodiil[7][9][10][11]. Some historians date this event in 2E 431.[12]
Orsinium loses the status of an Imperial territory, as a result of the death of the last Potentate Savirien-Chorak and the dissolution of the Second Empire.
[edit]Sixth Century
2E 546 — Jorunn is born.
Jorunn, the future High King of Skyrim and leader of the Ebonheart Pact, was born to Queen Mabjaarn Flame-Hair of Windhelm.[13]
2E 555 — Ayrenn is born.
Ayrenn, the future Queen of Alinor and leader of the Aldmeri Dominion, was born on the 5th of Second Seed to King Hidellith and Kinlady Tuinden of Summerset Isle.[14]
2E 560 — The Knahaten Flu
A strain of the Knahaten Flu hits the southern provinces of Tamriel causing many deaths. The Argonians were strangely immune to the flu which has led some to believe they were responsible for it in some way. The flu continued until around 2E 603.[12]
2E 563 — Voyage of the Crimson Ship.
A vessel filled with Kothringi tribesmen fleeing from the Knahaten Flu leaves Black Marsh on 9 First Seed. After spending over a year being turned away from port after port, it sets sail to the west and is never seen again.[3]
2E 572 — The Akaviri invaders of Morrowind were defeated.
The Akaviri invaders were killed when the land mysteriously became flooded. Despite the extensive flooding, almost no Dunmer people were injured or killed. Legend has it that the god Vivec taught the Dunmeri to breathe water and flooded the island.[15] Another version of the event states that Ada'Soom Dir-Kamal landed in northeast Skyrim with an Akaviri army and proceeded to capture Windhelm. En route to Riften, Dir-Kamal learned it was protected by forces under Jorunn the Skald-King and Wulfharth the Ash-King, and bypassed that city in favor of attacking Mournhold. Dir-Kamal was then trapped between Jorunn's forces and a Dunmer army led by Almalexia; with the timely aid of a phalanx of Argonian troops, they drove the Akaviri invaders into the sea to drown.[13]
2E 572 — Jorunn the Skald-King is crowned High King of Skyrim.
Having defeated the Akaviri invaders, Jorunn returns to Windhelm and is crowned High King of Skyrim in the throne room of the Palace of the Kings.[13]
2E 578 — Molag Bal begins to pull Nirn into Coldharbour.
An arcane energy explosion occurs in the Imperial City that sends mystical aftershocks across Nirn, causing mages to die or go mad, Daedra to appear in greater numbers, and the constellation of the Serpent to dominate the night sky. In the ensuing chaos, the Daedric Prince Molag Bal deploys Dark Anchors to begin pulling Nirn into his realm of Coldharbour to merge the two together.[16]
2E 580 — Ayrenn is crowned Queen of Alinor.
After having disappeared in 2E 563, Ayrenn was assumed lost and her eldest brother Prince Naemon was named the next heir to the throne. When King Hidellith died and Naemon prepared to assume the throne, Ayrenn returned to Summerset Isle, asserted her prior claim, and was crowned.[14]
2E 582 — The Alliance War begins.
Three competing alliances are formed by the nations of Tamriel to defend against the Imperials under Molag Bal's influence. The Aldmeri Dominion, consisting of Summerset Isle, Valenwood, and Elsweyr, seeks to reestablish Elven dominance over Tamriel to protect it from the carelessness of the younger races. The Daggerfall Covenant, consisting of High Rock, Hammerfell, and Orsinium, intends to restore the Second Empire and return peace and stability to Tamriel. The Ebonheart Pact, consisting of Skyrim, Morrowind, and Black Marsh, desires to defeat the Imperials in order to preserve the independence of their homelands.[16]
[edit]Seventh Century
2E 603 — Last documented case of the Knahaten Flu.
Even after the plague passed, non-Argonians tended to avoid the province out of fear.[3][17]
2E 638 — The Mage's Guild on Stros M'Kai gets fully chartered.[18]
[edit]Ninth Century
2E 828 — Probable birth of Tiber Septim.[nb 1]
2E 830 — The Aldmeri Dominion is reformed.
The dominion was formed by the realms of Summerset Isles and Valenwood when the heirs of the Camoran Dynasty began to fight over the Valenwood throne.[19]
2E 831 — Cyrus is born.
Cyrus the Restless, the famous Redguard mercenary, is born in the city of Sentinel.[20][21]
2E 852 — The Tiber Wars begin.
Forces led by General Talos, later known as Tiber Septim, begin a series of conflicts that result in the unification of Tamriel under the Third Empire and mark the final years of the Second Era.
The stronghold of Sancre Tor is captured by Nord-Breton invaders. In the dead of winter, General Talos led a daring assault and retook the stronghold against overwhelming odds. He recovered the Amulet of Kings from the Tomb of Reman III below Sancre Tor.[22][23]
2E 854 — Cuhlecain is assassinated.
The King of Falkreath was assassinated by a High Rock nightblade, just prior to his coronation as the Emperor. The assassin also burned the Imperial Palace to the ground and attempted to kill General Talos, who was crowned in Cuchlecain's stead as Tiber Septim.[24]
2E 862 — Thassad II dies.
The High King of Hammerfell, Thassad II, dies from natural causes, being considerably ill and old at the time of his death. After his death, leader of the Forebears, Baron Volag, starts a revolution to reinstate the republic.[25]
2E 864 — The Battle of Hunding Bay.
Crown Prince A'tor, son of Thassad II, heir to Hammerfell and leader of the Crowns, led his forces in continual victory over the Forebears. Desperate, they asked Tiber Septim for help, who sent his forces led by Lord Admiral Amiel Richton, who destroyed the Crown forces at the harbor of Stros M'Kai.[25]
2E 864 — The first edition of the Pocket Guide to the Empire is published.
At the request of Tiber Septim, this heavily-biased guide is published under the authority of the Imperial Geographical Society.[26]
2E 864 — The Rebellion of Stros M'Kai.
The date of the Redguard rebellion on the island of Stros M'Kai off the coast of Hammerfell. The Restless League, led by siblings Cyrus and Iszara, destroyed the Imperial fleet in the harbor of Stros M'Kai and defeated the small contingent of the Imperial Legion stationed on the island.[20]
Lord Amiel Richton, Provisional Governor of Stros M'Kai, dies at the hands of Cyrus, wielding a sword enchanted with the soul of Crown Prince A'tor.[20]
Baron Volag came out of hiding and retook the Forebear city of Sentinel. Following the two uprisings, Emperor Tiber Septim was forced to sign a peace treaty on terms more favorable to Hammerfell.[20]
2E 865 — Symmachus is born.
Symmachus, future general of the Imperial Legion and husband to Queen Barenziah, is born.[3]
2E 882 — Dagoth Ur reawakens.
Dagoth Ur and his Ash Vampires awaken underneath the Red Mountain, where they bind themselves to the Heart of Lorkhan. They ambush the Tribunes during their annual ritual bathing in the Heart's power, and drive them off.[27]
2E 893 — Barenziah is born.
Barenziah, future Queen of Morrowind, and later Wayrest, is born.[3]
2E 896 — The transformation of Cyrodiil.
After the fall of Alinor, Tiber Septim changes Cyrodiil's tropical climate into a temperate one.[oog 1][28]
2E 896 — Tiber Septim conquers Tamriel.
Tiber Septim finishes conquering all the lands of Tamriel with the aid of the Dwarven artifact Numidium and the battlemage Zurin Arctus, finally uniting them in peace. The time of Tiber's reign was a just (even from serf to king) and glorious one, among the best of Tamriel's history.[29]
Beginning of the Third Era is pronounced by Tiber Septim at the end of the year.[29]
Yeah, this mightn't help at all.

I'm guessing I'll end up playing a swordmage of some sort with a two-handed sword. IT really depends on if they have magic that is useful to melee people-- such as a "flamestrike" that makes your sword do more damage when it hits, for example.

Your making a big fuss about this, but what cinematic trailer does? SW: TOR, Warhammer Online, etc... all had awesome cinematic trailers that were pretty much just big giant battle scenes. Just like this one.
I can't think of any cinematic trailer that actually leaked any significant information about the game.

In addition to gameplay mechanics, other important aspects of a game include setting, tone, and theme. But does a cinematic trailer accurately convey these aspects? It seems to me that these aspects don't exist independently of mechanics but are instead fostered by them. There are a lot of license properties, for example, based on franchises that I really like -- and yet I still won't play the games because the play itself is IMO atrocious. One example is SW:TOR. I really like Star Wars and I especially love the setting, tone, and themes of the Old Republic period. Based on the cinematic trailer for that game, I should really love playing it. Fourteen or so hours of unsuccessfully trying to love it, however, proves otherwise.
So after fourteen hours of disappointing play, I find that I am still deeply impressed by the SW:TOR cinematic trailer. That's the game I wanted to play. It's not that I think that cinematic style can be translated into an in-game experience; rather, I would at least hope that whatever mechanics the game had successfully captured the same setting, tone, and themes of the trailer. Although there is a superficial resemblance between the trailer and gameplay in that respect, I find that the game falls significantly short of the trailer.
The opposite also happens. I was going to get Skyrim regardless of any marketing and indeed had it pre-ordered. But I did see the live-action commercial after 11-11-11. Having already settled into my first playthrough, I was really enjoying the game. But the commercial struck me as having nothing to do with my experience of playing Skyrim. In fact, the commercial seems pretty boring to me. It's washed out color-wise, which is absolutely not the case for a game with so many breathtaking sights. The way the villagers look and behave is nothing like what happens in the game nor is the landscape more than generically recognizable as Skyrim. Finally, the game itself is not actually about fighting dragons. Yes, that happens and it happens a lot regarding the main quest but saying Skyrim is about fighting dragons is like saying Mario is about collecting coins.
So whether the game is better than its cinematic marketing or whether the marketing is far outstripping the game play, the issue remains that this kind of marketing tells you very little if anything about the product in question. I agree with Corpsesarefun's criticism here. I'm not saying marketing is bad. I understand that commercials are not meant to educate me but rather to persuade me. But cinematic trailers are inherently unpersuasive to anyone who thinks about them for longer than the time it takes to watch them because we know they have nothing to do with the underlying product. It's not just that they don't show us gameplay; they don't even do a great job (at best they do a fair job) of telling us what the setting, tone, or themes of a game are.
Cinematic trailers, especially for MMOs, make me suspicious of a game's quality. That is certainly the case with this game.
Completely agree with your ToR cinematic trailer assessment. I don't understand why developers, more so publishers, continue to back making MMO's when several very high profile ones have failed. ToR being the most expensive "failure".
Cinematic trailers are bad at showing the content, but sometimes they can outlast the games they advertise and be quite cool as unique pieces of fan service.
I always hope that Chaos Warriors get a redesign and end up looking more like the above. i.e. Fully armoured, more like the mounted Knights we current have.

I'm excited to hear that you can explore all of Tamriel but I'm worried that it being an MMO it is going to feel like a boring grind.
