Been looking at models and rules a bit and I've narrowed my list to 3 possibilities.

Tiered Abby: like the models and the potential speed of the list.
Tiered Karchev: like the models and brute force, but worried the lack of speed and excessive brute force won't teachme the game well.
Harbinger: like the model and daughters of the flame, but the list doesn't seem noob friendly.

Anyhow pretty sure I'm going with Abby and a mix of the following in a tiered list.

Shredders: I like the rules and looks more than stingers or harriers.

A forsaken or shepherd for additional heavies past the 1st, need 2 forsaken for tiers.

Raek seems like a decent deal and fun model.

For range I like the look and the animus of the seraph. It seems unpopular in net lists and I'm not sure why.

Angelis also seems awesome and I like the model,

I like typhon as a potential 3rd heavy.

The big thing I'm not sure on is how to balance the ratio of shredders to heavies.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

Which faction has the most other models and casters you like? Eventually you will get bored playing the same thing over and over again or maybe a new release will catch your eye. Either way it is not very common to stick with just one caster so try to take the bigger picture into account when choosing your faction then decide your first purchases based more on the list in your first post.

Tier lists are too narrow for a new player. Don't play a tier list.

Secondly, get an idea of what playstyle you like then go picking something from there. Unless you're a very strict hobbist/modeler who doesn't really care how things feel on the tabletop, you have a fair chance of picking a faction that just doesn't grok with your preferences if you're going based purely on what looks cool.

You can either do this by knowing what you like in other games really well (mtg, rpgs, etc..) or by asking to pilot some 25pt lists "Typical for the Faction" in a demo game with some of the players around you.

I tried a couple of demo games, and prefer the mechanics of hordes. I know I'm going to eventually want a 2nd caster, just no clue who.

Another reason I want a tiered Abby list is it's less models to paint, and once I get in the groove of the paint theme it's not hard to finish the army.

Abby seems like a user friendly first caster. Is my perception off?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
As far as preferred models. Everblight beasties, khador jacks, and Menoth infantry.

As far as game mechanics go I prefer fast hard hitting armies, which is why I'm currently leaning towards everblight.

If you want to move fast, hit hard and have big/heavy beasts with hordes mechanics Legion is the correct faction to play so you've got a good pick here.

Reviewing Abslonia's tier list specifically, the only real issue that I see is that it makes you take 2x Forsaken which is probably more than you'll need in most of the other caster's lower point list. Which is an exception to the general rule about tier lists.

So long as you keep your beasts varied you'll be fine. I was posting from a more general case where tier lists often make you take 2 or more of something very specific you'd generally use only 1 or 0 of with other casters. She seems to be an exception.

To the specific models you've chosen:

Shredders: A+ Pick. Most lists take at least 1. Some lists take more. eThagrosh takes an army of them.

Raek: C. It's got some neat gimmicks but really only with abby, even then it's not a powerhouse pick.

Seraph: B-: The Animus is top notch and it does a decent job at kind of middling shooting. Other things do it's job better and it doesn't give you the best body for the points. You'll really just paying for the Animus which is really good.

Angelius: B : With tenacity it can be damn hard for some players to deal with and it's got a lot of threat range, it's attack is decent but only decent. It has it's role with you can play it with finesse but it's just outclassed by the Scythean in terms of face-ripping-off-age.

Typhon: A: A lot of casters like bringing him, he has a lot of attacks and they hit pretty hard. He is Hard to remove with tenacity and has boostable sprays he can use in melee.

You don't have a bad selection honestly and it's a decent starter point for a Legion force. I think the Raek and double forsaken are probably the weakest choices here but it's by no means bad compared to what I've seen other people assemble first.

I play menoth and legion:

for both though, don't go all-in and pick up a ton of models, really, the starter boxes for WM are great and evenly matched against other starter boxes even though WM/hordes has the whole "Hey I can have a WHOLE ARMY for like 150 bucks! thing going for it, you'll want to start slower, and spread out a bit as you learn the game.

as for the rest:
Raeks are fun, I usually take one at 35 points and up, The best trick with them is to give them closed fists with abby and throw something important at one of your beasts after jumping behind it. Ive found they work good with legionaires or other front line models, keeping the other player leery of moving anything important in since the raek can be an easy headbutt or two handed throw away
