So I'm looking into buying some sanguinary guard for my Blood Angels army and was wondering if they are a good choice for my Jet Pack/furioso dreadnought army

They are a good troops choice if you have Dante.
Kind of expensive but they do the job.

Some people must like them, but to me they're lacking. They are the same price as terminators, yet they have worse shooting, worse saves, and generally inferior cc weapons. They have uses and advantages over terminators (faster, can become troops, can take infernus pistols) but they don't do enough. Also, they are more expensive than Death Company, whom I also find to be a more effective unit. It's notable that you can only ever take 5 man units of SG, which isn't often big enough to drop and survive a turn before assaulting.
I suspect that in a few years they'll get buffed in the next codex, and the models are sweet, but I wouldn't use them as Sanguinary Guard as things currently stand.

sound like a unit to play for the fun of it then. Thanks for the feed back. You seem quite knowlegable on the BA so I have another question if you would induldge me. I'm thinking about taking Caps for my Assault Marine units. I'm going to make one the HQ version so I can free up a special spot. Would this be a good choice?

I've heard a lot of people argue in favor of chaplains, but I'm not convinced. If you don't get the charge, chaps aren't doing much, and if you DO get the charge, chaps are only helping on the first turn of combat. Divination librarians can let you reroll hits every turn, including your pistol shots, and they get a force weapon of your choice, rather than being stuck with a power maul. Libby is also 30 pts less than a reclusiarch, which adds up.
The argument in favor of chaplains is that they work even against Eldar/Tyranids/Space Wolves, against whom your psychic powers are around 50/50 to not work. Also, while either can be fluffy, I suppose chaplains are MORE so, especially with Death Company, whom they help out more than they help regular marines.

Yeah, I run a 500pt list with a unit of 5 DC with a Reclusiarch attached. They can normally deal out around about 15 wounds before saves on the charge.

they are alot better now IMO. the 2+ save now protecting against most power weapons is a fairly massive buff. only plasma and melta can hurt them now.
doing an all S guard army with dante and loading the squads up with infernus pistols, then deepstriking them in would be effective i think.

I've tried all Sang Guard, once, and the sample size is tiny but the results were disastrous. Just like terminators, they get killed by Thunderfire Cannons, by small arms fire...just by anything when there is a lot of that thing. TH/SS termies are going to be better, IMO, in most situations.

Well, a Sanguinary Guard army is difficult to pull off. The key is to throw the whole force against part of the enemy. But this is not easy to implement since only half of the army can stay in reserve.
It has inherent weeknesses as said above.

I have a squad to go with Dante, they can be really good unless your opponent has AP1/AP2 in large quantities. A lot of times I attach a sanguinary priest to them for feel no pain and furious charge(it makes the squad more expensive but if your fielding them you arent going for efficiency anyways.).
I got them because I love the models and they are fun squad to run especially now that 2+ armor is much better in CC than in 5th.
Over all I like them and though I wouldn't use them in a tournament I definitely love having them in my army.
