19 Termagants with Devourers and 1 Carnifex with TL Devourers with Brainleech Worms are worth exactly the same amount of points (230 pts).

What would you rather field in your list and why?

Keep in mind, it's a drop list and would most likely have at least 3 spods. 57 gants compared to 3 carnifexes. This is important to keep in mind for 1" restrictions of enemy models when dropping in.

If my other 3 troop units were Tervigons (or at least two of them), Id want the termaguants simply because the score and have a good sized footprint.

Would it sway you one way or the other to say troops choice is generally 2 Tervigons and 2 sets of 10 Gants?

Devilgants will do you loads better than Fexes, think of them as being 1 less strength in shooting, but with 15 more wounds, esp in a spod list where they're going to be in ppls faces T2.

The only thing you'll want to do is ensure that there is some forward synapse to keep them from being wiped out by a counter assault.

I'd take them if I didn't already have to paint up 70 gants just to keep my Tervigons stocked.

Depends on what role you need played.

Devilgants: Unlock troops Tervigon, horde, shreds other hordes and even MEQ if you have enough, can hold objectives

Carnifex: High enough strength to reliably destroy metal boxes and MEQ, and even most tanks if it gets dropped against the vehicle's rear armor. A single model, yet no pushover in close combat and unlikely to be harmed by anything short of a krak missile. Twin-linked allows it to also have a chance of killing Flyers in a pinch.

Against a foot army, the devilgants will wreck everything. The massive volume of shots they can put out is devastating. They do have a low leadership so try to deepstrike them near a synapse creature or DS a synapse creature with them (Trygon prime, zoanthropes in pod, Hive Tyrant with wings, etc.) You will get at least 1 round of shooting but then your opponent will react strongly. Without a synapse creature, losing 5 guys will force a leadership test which has a high likelihood of failing.

Against a more mechanized army, the carnifex would do better. The higher S shots will be great at taking out AV10-11 easily. DS the carnifex behind your opponent's tanks will get a good shot at rear armor so even Leman Russ tanks aren't completely safe. Then if you fail your IB test, you can always roll up and punch whatever you feel like.

I'd argue that the Carnifexes are good at against Horde lists as well. You wouldn't drop them in the backlines, but you'd drop them behind your gants/spawned gants as bubblewrap. At 18", you should be able to get at least 2 rounds off shooting in. Even with TL, overwatch will do decide. Yes, you're get more shots with the Devilgants, but durability of the Carnifex is scary, most likely he'll win combat resolution with AP 2 MC attacks.

20 Devilgants are impressive on the table but I will go for the Carniflex just because people used tanks more than troops and 2 tw devourers (12 shots str6) again flyers is more usefull than 60 shots again a Rhino.

Just as another option, what about 5 Warriors with Deathspitters in the spore? They're right between the other two options in virtually every way and are slightly cheaper than both (215 points for Warriors + pod vs 230 for Fex or 19 Termagants + pod).

5 Warriors scare me, especially with all the S8+ weapons there are in 6th.

They are 2 less strength. This gets important when they are also the main AA in the list. Gaunts will have a higher hit volume, generally lower wound volume and much lower glance/pen numbers.

Fex. Gaunts are fodder for nids. T6 saturation is far more important with the addition of Tervigons. S6 is better vs fliers and light vehicles and fexes are actually competent in melee vs smaller MEQ squads and obliterate vehicles easily. Devilgaunts are simply anti-inf in an army that specializes in anti-inf. Often the same problem with biovoes.
