So more list-building at work (again) last night, I was on platoon infantry spam. Basically 2 CCSs with meltas in chimeras, then 3 platoons (each with PCS w/meltaguns and two infantry squads with lascannon + melta). Some questions:

To Al Rahem or not Al Rahem? It seems like to make the most of him, I'd need to have unmeched special weapon squad or his own PCS squad unmeched, in order to use his awesome orders. An outflanking mech platoon is pretty cool but I don't know how effective it'd be to outflank with fairly mediocre firepower when it'd be better to concentrate it on a small a space as possible. Would a Harker squad in a chimera be better at this role?

Six lascannons is kind of meh. Should I drop them altogether in favour of some stormies or Marbo?

CCSs/PCSs are going to be fire magnets. Is there any point giving them all melta guns if they won't get to use them, should I drop them instead for a lascannon in each?

Maybe more questions. I'm not at my best after a night shift

Naaa na na na-na-na-naaa.

Na-na-na-naaaaa.

This belongs in Tactics.

I digress.

Harker should infiltrate. Always.

Al Rahem outflanking a platoon is pretty good, but meching them only wastes points.

Six lascannons is dope, but on an outflanking platoon where they snap-shoot on arrival, I'm unimpressed.

CCS should get melta/plasma, PCS should get that fire, and both should just hang out in Vendettas.

Edit: it also would help to know what point level this list-idea refers to.

So, I've fought against the list you have in mind, here's some things that will make your opponent cry tears of rage.

`1.Aegis defense line. 50 pts to make every chimera a +4 save. It also practically makes your tanks invincible turn one to ranged fire if night fighting gets rolled. Turns your parking lot into a black hole that no amount of rage can penetrate.

2/ Camo netted medusas are a godsend for you. Normally I don't bring medusas, but in that situation, I guarantee you I would abuse the heck out of them. A 36" range demolisher cannon with a +3 cover save? My god those things are evil. Colossi and manticores would also be good choices, depending on what you feel you need.

3. You WILL need something for aggression. Al'rahem, vendettas/valks, harker, stormtroopers, etc. Anything to disrupt your opponent a bit wouldn't hurt.

Also, make sure you have a contingency plan for deepstriking armies. Daemons will bend your list over the table and do unspeakable acts to it, so make sure you've practiced fighting against them and know how to deal with it. Droppods, Termis deepstriking, necron airforce, etc, high mobility armies that can pen you in and tear you apart upclose will be your hardest matchups.

'I've played Guard for years, and the best piece of advice is to always utilize the Guard's best special rule: "we roll more dice than you" ' - stormleader

Al'Rahem is good if outflanking in Chimeras. Give his squad 4x Melta and pop tanksand put a flamer in the PIS's 2-3 will work a treat. On the Chimeras its best to run Multi-Laser and Heavy Flamer. The Multi-Lasers can take care of side and rear armour where as the Heavy Flamers can clear objectives for you. The platoon should tailored to clear an area and then hold it. They are able to get into places that guard normally struggle to get into. If you do go with Al'Rahem it best to take an Astropath as well to get them in faster and help you to get the board edge you want. Finally Al'Rahem can give orders from inside the Chimera just not the guys inside of Chimeras.
