Hi there,

I'm just wondering if it's generally frowned upon to use rules/units from the Forgeworld Imperial Armour Apocalypse books for non-Apocalypse, specifically the Imperial Guard flyers?

Thanks,

Imperial Aeronautica is okay, but Apocalypse stuff might be pushing it. Unless you're playing a big game, I guess.

With consent from whoever your playing you can pretty much do whatever you want.
but generally i think apoc is usually reserved for apoc.

Ah I see. So the Thunderbolt for example is from Aeronautica - had my books and acronyms confused

Imperial Armor Aeronautica, then. The one that's got the fliers and stuff in it.

At least the newer FW books have either "Warhammer 40 000" or "Apocalypse" stamps next to the units to tell you in which games the unit is meant to be used.

In IAA, the Hyperios Air Defence Battery is listed as a fast attack option for SM armies - should this not be a fortification much like the Aegis?

In theory, they work together....but results may very. Some units are just not designed to be balanced against non-apocalypse armies. Talk it out with your opponent(s) before hand.

As a general rule of thumb, if a unit has "this unit may be taken as an X choice in a Codex: Y army list", then it is good for standard 40k. Some things are more powerful than others, but the imbalance is no worse than that in main 40k (I would argue that the best non-superheavy model in the game for its point cost is the Vendetta). However, superheavy choices and choices that don't have a specified slot in the FOC are too powerful for a normal 40k game.
