I have just purchased the Dark Vengeance set with my friend and he has took Chaos leaving me with the Dark Angels, however i am unsure what colour to paint the undercoat (first coat). For most of my previous 40k army's I have used black spray paint and I can't recall ever using white. For my Dark Angles should I use (dark) grey which would be applied with a brush or black which would probably be applied using spray paint? Taking into account the second layer will be Dark Angels Green (the original not Caliban Green).

I like my dark angels dark, so I start with a black spray undercoat, then a base coat of dark angels green, followed by highlights of snot green and a final edging of 50/50 snot green/goblin green

I start with a nice coat of automotive primer grey, then a coat of Dark Angels/Caliban Green, with a healthy wash of black to deepen the green without it getting too terribly dark.

Just go to army painter dot com. They have all the necessary spray primers. Paint a few details and dip. Use strong quick shade for the greenies and soft for the deathwing.

I have a love /hate relationship with anything green.
