Hey all,
I'm thinking about making some fullscale purity seals. I KNOW there's been threads talking about it, but when I search, I find pages upon pages of people talking about that crappy sealant of GW's.
Anyone have any links on where to start?

Space marine collectors edition had amongst other cool things a 1:1 purity seal. Beautifully done as well. You should look for reference pics of that.

If you're looking for relatively cheap red wax for use in the project, and are a fan of cheese- find yourself some cheese that comes in a red wax wrapping. I think the brand baby bell does this on some of the smaller cheeses.
After consumption, just clean them thoroughly, put in a well lubricated saucepan over low to medium heat and bam! you've got wax for your purity seals!

Most people don't use actual wax, The_Chaplain, they sculpt the seal from clay/epoxy putty (even hot glue) and paint it. Far more resilient (to both handling and heat), that way, and saves you carving/sculpting a master, only to have to make a mold into which the wax is cast. Pressing a seal that large the normal way is impractical - hard to get a large enough buildup of wax while keeping it fluid enough to take the stamp. Cheese casing wax is actually pliable enough to be stamped at room temperature, but you'd need to be damned careful handling it, afterward - the stuff gets much softer and stickier after working and would need to be kept dust-free, as it's nearly impossible to clean off the surface once gunk settles.
OP: Don't remember the exact threads I've seen about them, but I know I have, and right here on Dakka. Did a gallery search, instead, and found a number of examples. Should be able to track down the relevant threads if you have usernames.

And the reason I'm against using wax:

You may not want to use real wax, but I found this and thought it was so awesome: http://ragehaus.com/?p=1215

@oadie:
Good find on the pictures. I was actually aware of the thread in which that the last one occurred in.
I have a decent amount of sealing wax available to me. I was thinking I might make a master out of that, and then create a recast it in resin for the actual seals themselves. I still don't have the paper worked out, but there are options. That first one looks pretty good. I wonder how he made the paper for that.
@Skoda:
Great find on that site! I was thinking about carving a stamp from green stuff. That looks like it might actually wind up better though.
Next question:
How large do you think the seal should be? I was thinking 2" to 2.5"

My buddy and I made some purity seals.
We took various bits and glued to a base, and cast them in resin.
Then we found some suitable texts from various codexes and Imperial Infantrymans Uplifting Primer, and printed them using suitable fonts.
We crunched up the paper and soaked it in thin coffee, and painted the seals red with a Devlan Mud wash.

Steelmage99, those look pretty awesome, however the placement on jacket makes them look like stripper tassles

Lol. Yes, they do kinda look that way.
Of course, the picture on the jacket was simply to show the size.
