Hello! I've been stalking and reading the forums for quite a bit already, and finally I decided to create an account.
And I have a question already.
I know it's bad, I'm sorry, but I really have to ;]
I've been reading a lot about viable Ork/IG combinations but I haven't found an answer that would satisfy me in 100%. So, as every ork player in 6th ed I started to look for some good long-ranged tankbusting and fire support. And my first idea was IG, ofc, because they are relatively easy to "orkify" (Human mercs or slaves, or something like Diggas form Gorkamorka) and are really shooty (compared to the orks). So, what I have planned to incorporate into my army are- Ork nobs with a Warboss [@edit on bikes ;p], Burnas with a Big Mek and KFF in a BW, some grots or shootas to hold the objectives. Now, here comes the IG support. I am considering taking either a Lord Commissar with a squad of veterans with sniper rifles and a lascannon, or just going for sheer numbers with a command squad and one infantry platoon, all with sniper rifles and lascannons where available. This would make about 4 heavy weapon teams with a possibility to upgrade even further.
So, what do you think? A squad of skilled veterans, or just a lot of dakka? Or something completely different? I just don’t like that about 80% of guardsmen in my regular infantry platoons won’t do a damn thing, as they will probably be out of range, or simply to weak to actually wound/penetrate something.
I'm posting this in tactics instead of army lists, because the is no army list yet ; P

The two biggest problem people have with Orks and Guard is unneeded upgrades. Your Allied detachment would work fantastic as follows.
HQ- CCC, Lascannon, Regimental Standard 85pts
T- PCS, Lascannon 50pts
PIS, Lascannon 70pts
PIS, Lascannon 70pts
PIS, Lascannon 70pts
PIS, Lascannon 70pts
PIS, Lascannon 70pts
TOTAL 400pts
Also take an Agies with either a Quad-gun or Lascannon and make either the CCS or Platoon Commander shoot it. The guard should be the back field campers to hold objectives and provide long range Anti-Tank. Keep the CCS protected because they will give you moral re-rolls and Orders.
If you want to a Vendetta and/or a Manticore are a good investment. If you take a Vendetta make the PCS have 4 flamers and drop off to roast a sqad on an objective.
Send the boys forwards at all times reguardless of what kind of Ork army you have. The Guard should de-mech them pretty quickly and once the boys start charging you will roll through them.

Orks and IG have 3 options, which revolve around the key strengths both armies have.
1. The green tide. Orks have one of the best troops in the game. Spam shoota boyz and lootaz. IG allies in with a platoon or 2 with a CCS with a regimental standard. ALL squads have lascannons with melta/plasma (really, no point in buying autocannons when orks have the best autocannon in the game) You take no vehicles whatsoever. Make your opponent curse the day he brought anti tank guns and just drown him in dakka.
2. Armored thunder. Everyone loves AV 14. Especially when you have the armies with the best av 14 vehicles in the game allied. Works best with orks being your primary and allying in an armored battlegroup (FW) or just regular IG. You can field an army of literally nothing but av 14 tanks. Think about that. Regular IG dont do this as well. but could do ok with this at double force org level.
3. Speed freaks. Just spam mechvets and trukkspam. Never really crunched numbers on this, but basically the trukk rush charges in and your chimeras roll in behind them providing fire support. IG would want to bring as much plasma as humanly possible, and vendettas. Ork dakkajets, bikes, or koptas may work as well. Never tried this though so take it with a grain of salt.

Ive used IG with my Ork army a couple times as my son and I have smaller armies of IG and SM.
I really like the build I played that just used a CC squad and a Vet Squad, both stock but I put them in my Bastion and were quite effective. No air targets for the quad gun but I put the CC squad up top on that and it got some kills. And with the way the mounted Heavy bolters work you can actually have each one manned using one member of the squad insde and they can all fire at different targets.Having that 3 shots with 3 up to hit at up to 4 targets all coming from just one unit choice can be pretty sweet!..and that doesnt count the remaining 6 guys being able to shoot out the fireports
