Hello everyone. After looking through multiple drop pod lists ideas I have decided to put together Black Dragons drop pod army but with a few tweaks. For those who are not familiar to the Black Dragons Chapter:

-They are part of the 21st Cursed Founding
-They have a geneseed mutation which causes bony growths to grow on their forearms and foreheads.
-If the mutations are sever enough the chapter takes the most mutated ones, has them sheath their forearm growths in admantium and use them as close combat weapons, theses guys are known as the "Dragon Claws"
-Rumored to be a successor of the Salamanders Chapter.

Now taking this all in many people have recommended I do a Blood Angels army, since the Dragon Claws in a way are much like the Death Company. However that would move away from the drop pod list theme that I really want to run so I have narrowed it down to a few choices and wanted to see what you people thought:

Idea #1: Codex Space Marines w/ Pedro or Vulkan (probably Vulkan) with as many stern/tactical squads in drop pods as I can fit with a few thunderfire cannons and dreads tossed in. Either way out of this book I would set aside points to form a squad of Vanguard Veterans kitted out with Lightning Claws, power fists ect. to represent my Dragon Claws.

Idea #2: Same as above but bring in some Blood Angel Allies and create the Dragon Claws from Death Company.

Idea #3: Use the Space Wolf Codex and take Logan and spam as many Wolfguard as possible (all in power armor) and creating a few to have jump packs to represent the Dragon Claws.

This is just the main ideas I am thinking, if you feel that you have a better one I would love to hear it, along with any other ideas or comments you wish to make. Thanks for reading guys.

Honestly, using Vulcan and the standard Marine Codex makes since as they are technically, a 2nd founding chapter of the Salamanders and the Vanguard would be used to represent there elite CC unit. But at the same time, the Blood Angels would also make sense, as the Death Company can easily be used to represent them, plus for fluff, you can run Furisoso Dreadnoughts to make some cool conversions.

I'd actually say just use C:SM and use Vanguard with LC, maybe even taking Shrike?

First off, I like the idea of lightning claws = dragon claws.

Obviously using C:SM is the easiest, least-objectionable option, as thats what most people use for the codexless chapters. You can easily find ways to to get your Black Dragons themes across, and you'll never have any opponents raise an eyebrow when you say your army is "counts as."

On the other hand, I do see how Blood Angel rules and Death Company are a bit more in line with the Black Dragon's fluff. Your issue there is doing "counts as," which some people like and some people don't. The rule of cool prevails here though, if you do a good job modeling them up with all the spikey bits on their arms and foreheads, I doubt anyone will object. Also, if you do that, post pics!
