Im in the process of expanding my DA, and im not looking at some Dedicated transports. Ill be getting a LRC for my DW next month, but for now im looking at maybe a pair of Razorbacks.

I run two 5 man Tac squads with a PW and Plasma Gun in each, and a third squad with a Flakk ML behind an Aegis. I think some Razorbacks would give my troops the speed and survivability they need to claim objectives without risking getting wiped out due to their low numbers.

What is the general consensus on Razors? Would I be better off with Rhinos? Whats the best weapon for the Razor?

The reason im not so much looking at the Rhinos is due to my small squad size, and id like the extra firepower.

Razors are great as light tanks, but like rhinos in this edition make some pretty poor actual transports.

So if I take them, maybe stick with the HB to minimize cost? Or use the Lascannon to get the most out of them as a light tank?

They would be primarily just be for use as pure transports, not for actually engaging significant enemy squads.

What made razorbacks so good in 5th does not apply today. There are a few key disadvantages
* You can't score while inside the razorback.
* You can't disembark and assault from inside your razorback. If a squad of eldar jetbikes comes close, you cant hop out and beat them in the face.
* Hull points make AV11 spam weaker.

It's still playable, but don't expect it to be a 'power build'.

Not to mention that having easy to kill units on the table (like Rhinos and Razorbacks) invites an early surrender of First Blood, which goes a long way towards making ties into close losses.

One of my friends has named his razorback 'First Blood'.

Its because ordinance is still a word.
However, firing ordinance at someone isn't nearly as threatening as firing ordnance at someone.
Ordinance is a local law, or bill, or other form of legislation.
Ordnance is high caliber explosives.
No 'I' in ordnance.
Don't drown the enemy in legislation, drown them in explosives.

It's really hard for me to worry about first blood as a BA player. Maybe that's a mistake. But it's about who and what is standing at the end to me.

I've been bringing 4-5 rhinos with my plague marine army, and I've been thinking of changing that due to the first blood issue.

Even behind an ADL, its stupidly easy to give up 'first blood' due to a weak unit. This has a huge disadvantage, as often book missions go down to secondary objectives for purposes of win-loss.

Im not fearing the first blood issue too much. Although I like to build competitive lists (or as competitive as I can make them), thats purely so that a game is more engaging and closely fought. When it comes down to winning or losing, I dont mind as long as I have a good game out of it.

With Rhinos and Razorbacks being such lightly armored tanks, you have to consider how you're probably sacrificing First Blood for mobile troops that can get to objectives easier. You may lose one point, but if you can set up defenses around the objectives, then you'll easily make up for that lost point.

Well I personally play Imperial Guard and we arguably have the best IFV in terms if cost , armour and firepower . But I face razor backs enough I might be able to help -

Advantages ( from a guard POV )
- Lots of Heavy Weaponary Options
- Excellent Support Unit for providing fire support I.E If a squad is kitted for AT then give the razorback anti- infantry to allow them to support one another
-Provide an extra layer of protection for valuable troops

Disadvantages -
- clear cost of said heavy equipment
- Reletivly thin armor
- only a 6 ( if I remember right ) man transport ability
- Requires some tactics to use properly

So I'm not sure how accurate all of that is but that is the best guess I can throw your way , overall when building a mech list it's not something you just "add" you have to build your list around using them

Motto of the Imperial Guard " If its worth bringing one its worth bringing three"

I tend to use a lot of Ravenwing, so I need some mobile infantry to keep up with them when they hopefully create space. Plus, more big guns behind my bikes would be nice. I also deep strike my Termies onto the bikes.

As a common tactic, I tend to focus my mobile elements on one flank, and castle up my aegis and fire support (pred) on home objectives on the opposite side. This makes my opponent split his forces (thought obviously it also splits mine)

I then scout my bikes to use as line breakers. So if I can follow my bikes with my Razors, and then DS the DW onto the bikes on Turn one, then my opponent has one flank with a lot of scary units in on it. The termies tend to panic people into focussing on them, which is useful for drawing fire away from light armour and the slightly squishier bikes.
