I am thinking of necron allies but my search-fu is weak as I can't find anything about how well they work.

I was thinking of taking Imotekh as the ally HQ because of the early game night fighting hen the orks are running across the map because combined ith a kff it gives the boyz a 3+/4+ cover save so it reduces the casualties that slugga boyz will take. For the ally troop choice I as thinking about taking a 10-20 count unit of necron warriors because A) They are decent anti-tank, and B) they can provide a good meat shield with reanimation protocals running them up the field in front of the orks. (something about a 4+ armor save coupled with a res orb for a 4+ RP seems really good for a meat shield that doubles as anti-tank)

I think that this would give the orks the needed survivability to foot slog across the board. What do you guys think? Is there something that I am missing that makes this sub-par which is why nobody does this?

Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high

Immotehk might be a good pick, I'd take few small warrior squads to claim backfield objectives, as they are less liable to be shot off of them.
Maybe grab a doomscythe, if there is one thing that orks have trouble with, it is armor at range.
A unit of wraiths would serve your purposes as a fire magnet very well, the enemy won't be able to ignore them, and they will be able to assault if you position well turn 2, and tie something up until the hordes arrive

Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum.

I ram a list like this a couple times, very survivable but boring. It went something like this:

Big mek kff
2-3 max shoota squads
Imotep
7 warriors maybe more
Doom scythe
A single cronotech

That's the core, add to flavor
15 storm boys
15 Lootas
Sub doom scythe for night scythe add spiders and scarabs
Grotz and a lc agiess sp? line wouldn't go amiss which if course the necrons could also man.
I can't remember what else

It's very phalanx'y.

I've also thought but hadn't done necrons in av 13 transports with a kff mek in a battlewagon with some shoota/loota boyz. 3+ spyders with psykic protection and scarab swarms.

Err, Imotekh's lightning would strike any non-Necron units on the table... including your Orks.
