Just because I'm that big of a geek... I want to get a 1:1 Crus Terminatus. Of course, it will be wood instead... But I want to get one and I will paint it myself. Now, my question is... How big is a Crux? The space marines are around 7 foot tall, and I don't know of any dimensions for the pauldron... A little help, perhaps?

Space Marines can only be male because marine implants only take with the male physiology. Males and females have differing hormone levels in terms of estrogen, testoterone, etc. Thank you for reading this.

From most scale charts in looks like regular Power Armour pauldrons hover around 1.5 feet in length. I think it'd be pretty accurate to make the actual Crux Terminatus about 12" in length and around 8-10" in width. Hope that helps?

There are some images of guys dressed as space marines (presumably for some official event), like these two. Assuming they're about 6' tall, a 12" crux wouldn't look out of place.

Mind you since an average Astartes Marine is about 8 feet tall, and Terminator armour is HUGE.... the Crux at 1.5 feet across seems minimum...

There is no average height of a Space Marine anymore, they can be anything from 7' - 12', it's insane, I'm with you though, I like to think they'd be around 8'.

As for the Crux, since no-one agrees on SM height, measure a Terminator, measure the Crux, scale it up to however big you think a SM in TDA would be, then you'll get a Crux of a size you're happy with.

Young Soldier: William Wallace is seven feet tall!
William Wallace: Yes, I've heard. Kills men by the hundreds. And if HE were here, he'd consume the English with fireballs from his eyes, and bolts of lightning from his arse.

Couldn't help it...

Anyway, the current scaling holds that a Space Marine is about 8-9 feet tall, armor and all.

I'm guessing that Terminator armor is probably a 10-15% increase over a PA space marine, so a crux should be based on a shoulder pad for that.

But also keep in mind that TDA is not required for the Crux Terminatus to be worn. It doesn't signify TDA, it usually signifies membership in the first company. So even guys in PA can wear them. So you really do have a fairly decent range of sizes to choose from.

Well, the size of Space Marines is a matter of some dispute.

There is a photo used by some as proof for how tall they are. Put aside the actual height for now, it's not important. What matters is the proportion, which is to say that the shoulderpads are 20% of the height of a Space Marine.

Terminators have the same proportionate size shoulderpads, and Terminators are about 25% larger (that's my "eyeballing 2 models standing together" guess). So, if you presume Space Marines are 7 feet tall, then the pad would be 1.4 feet tall, and a terminator pad would be 1.75 feet tall on a 8.75 foot terminator. Some think they are a little larger, so pick the sources you believe and go with that. Since the crux doesn't take up the entire pad, then I'd concur with the previous poster - "about a foot or so" seems about right.

Don't get too hung up on the details - the people writing the stories never do, since the heights are all over the place.

Thanks Dakka. I won't be wearing the Crux since I don't have money to make a set of PA, but I do want to make the Emperor proud. Heh.

Where are you displaying this? If it's going for a wall mounting, I'd totally go closer to the 2 foot mark, simply because it'd be larger. Scale and height issues aside, hope you post about this project on dakka once you start

Well, chances are I won't be able to make it personally, though I will be painting it up, definitely. I have a few people I hope will help me out with this endevour. And I'm not really sure where I'll display it yet, I haven't thought that far ahead. I just know that I will definitely be posting it on here!

The wiki for Space Marines show this:

Also, the space marine game gives off a pretty accurate idea of how big the Space Marines are.. in my humble opinion of course...
