A Tau Shadowsun model popped up on eBay. I've been looking for one for awhile but they always go above my limit. This one is all pewter but in a white box that says "Citadel" on it. Is there a difference between that one and a gamesworkshop box?

The model is the same, "Citadel Miniatures" is technically the model producing arm of games workshop. Direct Order models often come in the generic Citadel box instead of the flashier retail box with the miniature specific art.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

Ok, thanks for the clarification, I was afraid I had just bought a knock off.

It's money saving by GW. All direct only (with one or two exceptions, mostly characters) come in these white boxes. It saves on packaging and means the pickers just take the sprues out of the bins and throw them into a white box without any need for a specific box. I have CSM havocs, Eldar wraithguard, etc in these boxes.

My first Furioso dreadnaught came in one of those white boxes, and a few other models I ordered as well.

It should be perfectly legitimate, I was in the nearest FLGS today and they had a couple of them on the shelf.

Blood for the bloo... wait no, I meant for Sanguinius!

If a model doesn't have specific box art they come in a generic white box. Its usually a stop gap measure before they do a redesign of the box art(usually because of a new book or model)

They sometimes also go in white boxes because GW ran out of specific boxes so occasionally you will have a random model in a white box.

Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

I'd lose the fancy packaging if I got a price discount.

Ordered two blisters of bolter girls to fill up my SoB list recently. They came in the typical blister pack, but the backing was white with the Citadel logo. I sure hope that means they're getting an update at some point.

It's cost cutting, pure and simple. If you have retail boxes for every product it means additonal prinitng costs and warehousing space. It is simpler to just hold the special order stock in hoppers and pick it straight into white boxes, which get stickered. The process was explained to me at Warhammer World when I bought some stuff which came in white boxes.
