So, I'm building an World Eaters Army set at the time of Skalathrax and I've got a few questions.

The World Eaters were still a Legion at Skalathrax, presumably with an intact (minus Librarians) chain of command and such. Anyone know of any references to who or what that looked like? Where did Kharn fit into the whole organization? I've found a centurion Gruner referenced - one of Kharn's old mentors - but not much else.

Additionally, how demonified was the legion by that point? Were they still packing the usual space marine legion stuff (predators, drop pods, storm eagles), were they all tricked out with the new stuff (maulerfiends and such), or were they somewhere between?

I'm not sure there are any real answers to this, but if there are, please shoot them my way. Otherwise, provide an awesome justification for why your opinion is right - I'm fine with that too.

Kharn was a Captain of one of the World eaters Company. There are more details in one of the HH novels.

If you want to learn more about the legion I highly recommend reading Betrayer from the HH series.

The World Eaters dont really have a chain of command in battle. Due to their brain implants the legion loses control in battle resulting in a kind of every man for himself mentality. Angron doesnt command his legion, he is too busy massacring the enemy to care. Kharn functions as leader of the World Eaters in battle, mostly trying to regain command of the legion and ordering them to support other elements of their forces. This leads to another problem, due to their lack of control there s almost no coordination between infantry and armour. This causes pretty heavy losses on both elements in combat (tanks ambushed by infantry in urban enviroments for example). Imo therefore the World Eaters wouldnt have a large armoury of vehicles (consisting of all kinds of tanks, just check forgeworlds latest miniatures), losing many in combat and being unable to replace them. Also taking into account probably heavy losses on Terra would lead to my conclusion that they didnt have many vehicles or aircraft anymore. Skalathrax also reads like mostly an infantry affair for the few details it provides.

Demonified, its difficult to say to what extent. Betrayer speeds up some events surrounding this issue. I wouldnt go too heavy on possesed or anything. Betrayer mentions nothing of possesed among World Eaters while it says that the Word Bearers already have a significant amount. On deamonic armour, I would say little. The codex doesnt really give a timeline for Fiends or Heldrakes. But Skalathrax took place while they were still busy occupying the Eye and competing heavily. The deamonic forge worlds were probably not set up to provide large amounts at this time and most would probably go to the Iron Warriors, since the World Eaters dont really seem the type to run a forge world to me. So on that matter its mostly up to you. Defilers are easy, they are only introduced into the timeline at a later date.

I hope this helps to awnser some of your questions.

It does indeed. Thanks for your thoughts and insight on the matter. I hadn't seen Betrayer before, so I downloaded it today for some in-flight reading this afternoon. Hopefully it'll provide all the answers I need on command structure. As for the rest, I see your reasoning on the tanks & aircraft. I can't imagine fire control measures were big in the legion, and without replacements for damaged armor there probably wouldn't be much left.

I've got food for thought now on how to continue with the list - no rhinos or raiders it is! It seems the World Eaters preferred horde tactics on the whole, so I'll keep the list going that way.
