For competitive lists, how many fliers should I take in 1500 - 2000 point lists.
I'm thinkg at least 1-2 Storm Talons are a must have, now that they reduced points cost. What about their upgrades, I was thinking running them just with AC and HB to keep points cost low? Their main focus would be anti-infantry and light vehicles including enemy fliers.
But what about Storm Ravens? Should a competitive C:SM army always include one? Or two?
I guess you could use a SR to transport TH/SS terminators and an Ironclad Dreadnought to assault enemies, but then the SR would have to be in hover-mode and risk getting shot.

Well, if you want to field flyers, field more than one. A single one tends to do down quickly. I'd say two Stormtalons and one Stormraven in 2000 pt games.

Missile launchers are nice on Stormtalons, as they can target ground infantry pretty effectively. It's a more generalist vehicle in that case, still useful, different role.

As of the Death from the Skies book, they are 110pts w/ the AC and HB.
AC and Skyhammer is 125.

I still think Typhoon is the best TAC weapon choice. It is very versatile against wide variety of targets. Skyhammers got cheaper, but I'm still not convinced that they're worth it.

145pts for a Stormtalon w/ typhoon is ehhh. When you can get a 3shot autocannon for 20pts cheaper. I mean, 2 Stormtalons for 290 or 3 Landspeeders w/ Typhoons and HBs for 270. And the Speeders can take part in your alpha strike.
Sure, they can't shoot flyers, but usually you have a Aegis Gun, or Contemptor Mortis, to shoot at flyers with.

In my experience land speeders die really fast in this edition. I'd rather have those two Stormtalons.
But yes, Skyhammers are quite cheap. On the other hand you're pretty much limited to shooting at light vehicles with them.

I like running Storm talons with Cylones, it allows them to provide BS-5 blasts with pinning to a more infantry focused game, and if your taking storm ravens they are your go too unit for taking out other fliers. Just hit one with the Multimelta, and the other one hit with the str 8 ap2/ap1 missilies. Automatically Appended Next Post: or go for broke and in an 1850 list bring 3 Talons, and 3 ravens. Then laugh crazy 6 fliers come on turn 2

3 Talons and 3 Ravens I think is a little too much points even in 2000 point games.
I was thinking 2 Talons and then 2 Ravens carrying a librarian, a Tac squad and a dual-flamer dreadnought each.
That would be about 1300 points.
Rest of the list would consist of Guardsman blobs, Chimeras and a Vendetta.
That would give me air superiority with 5 flyers, and also good firepower to take out ground targets, and a method to deliver scoring marines behind enemy lines.
